We are looking to recruit frontline Immigration Officers for various teams within our region.  We have Immigration Officers based in both our ICE and ROM teams and we will look to post successful candidates into whichever team has a vacancy at that time, according to your stated location preference.

Job description

Whether you work on an ICE or ROM team, this is an exciting opportunity to develop and embed a wide range of people and engagement skills, in a job where you can make a real difference.

This is a demanding operational role, requiring personal resilience and integrity. Our officers need to be able to respond to challenges in a calm and professional manner. 
 
As an Immigration Officer, you will work as part of a team of Officers, undertaking a range of interesting and varied activities linked to our aim of reducing harm and protecting the public.

This role is physically demanding, and you will need to have a high level of mobility and fitness to carry out this role.

Key responsibilities

•    Identifying, arresting, and detaining immigration offenders, protecting, and safeguarding the vulnerable
•    Engaging with communities and partner agencies across government, demonstrating a genuine interest in people through an inquisitive, open mind and empathy
•    Completing property and person searches including collecting, preserving, and recording evidence.  Conducting residential and commercial compliance & enforcement visits
•    Escorting of immigration offenders to Overseas and UK based locations and can include short term stays abroad or in other UK locations
•    Gathering intelligence, completing risk assessments, driving official vehicles, conducting database checks and closely examining documents
•    Directing officers whilst on an enforcement visit and conducting Briefings/De-Briefings, Writing reports and inputting data on internal systems and handheld devices 
•    Conducting marriage interviews
•    Maintaining contact, either face to face or via the telephone, with those who are required to report within Reporting Centres or Police Stations

Working pattern

This role is available on a full-time basis only.

Training

You will receive full training and support to do the job. Training takes place initially in the classroom and then continues on the job with a mentor who supports you until you are fully confident in the role. Even then you are never alone; you work as part of a team where there is always someone around for advice and support. Further information on what the training involves can be found on our website.

Training provided to successful candidate: ICE Pathway Programme:

We will give you full and comprehensive training which will enable you to carry out this worthwhile and varied role.  You will need to undertake a Pathway Programme of training if successful, this is a pass or fail course, which you will be required to pass to carry out the role. Subject to availability of pathway training courses, our new starters will be required to commence a shift working pattern before training begins of 3-4 weeks.  You will be expected to be available for 5-7 weeks for the course which may include weekends and if the venue is away from your base location travel and accommodation costs will be met by the business. 

Upon completion of the training course, you will undertake in house mentoring with your team, to allow you to exercise and put into practice the training received, allowing you to complete the pathway training. This mentoring period can normally take 12 months for completion.

Essential criteria

•    Good verbal and written communication to be able to draft witness statements, court reports and engage with the public.
•   Able to make difficult decisions when they are needed. Gathering information from various sources to make a reasoned assessment, justifying your recommendation.
•    Excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills.
•    Professional behaviours and personal integrity associated with a law enforcement organisation with the ability to follow legislation.
•    Personal resilience in dealing with challenging and conflicting situations with professionalism, honesty & integrity.  
•    The ability to be flexible, adaptable, and creative in solving problems and dealing with demanding situations.

Licences

This role requires the candidate to hold a full valid UK Manual/Automatic driving licence. as part of the role, as IO’s will need to drive official vehicles on enforcement visits and police call-out shifts.

Selection process details

     3.  Sift – week commencing 2nd December 2024

The sift will be held on the Personal Statement.

     4.  Interview – week commencing 6th January 2025

If you are successful at sift stage, you will be invited to an interview that will be:

  • Strength based questions.

Interviews will be carried out face to face at each location listed. Travel expenses will not be reimbursed.

Presentation

In addition, candidates will be asked to prepare a presentation that will be delivered at interview. The presentation will be assessed against 'Experience' on the 'Success Profiles' and will be assessed against the 'Essential Criteria' as listed in the job advertisement. The presentation question/scenario will be disclosed closer to the interviews.
