Job summary
The Maternity and Newborn Safety Investigation (MNSI) programme, formerly the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch (HSIB) maternity programme, moved to be hosted by the CQC on the 1 October 2023.
The maternity programme commenced under HSIB in April 2018, following the request from the then Secretary of State for Health and Social Care. The programme is part of the overall national maternity ambition to improve maternity safety and reduce harm by 50% by 2025. The programme was fully rolled out across England by April 2019. In 2022, a commitment was made to continue the programme for a further 5 years, until March 2027.
Job description
The postholder will:
- Work as part of MNSI's clinical advisory team providing critical care clinical advice to support maternity investigators and team leaders undertaking MNSI investigations.
- Work collaboratively with other clinical advisors, the heads of each region, the clinical director, and their deputy, to support the requirements of the programme across England.
- Report to the lead anaesthetic and critical care team clinical advisor.
- Hold a concurrent consultant level post in an NHS organisation.
Person specification
You will work as part of MNSI’s clinical advisory team providing critical care clinical advice to support investigators and team leaders undertaking MNSI investigations and ensuring patient safety to the highest level. You will work collaboratively with other clinical advisors, the heads of each region, the clinical director, and their deputy, to support the requirements of the programme across England by providing expert critical care clinical advice and guidance.
You must be trained in intensive care (holding FFICM) and regularly work in an NHS critical care unit in a consultant level post. Ensuring investigation reports are representative of current clinical practice, representative of national guidance and initiatives and factually accurate, you will present extensive knowledge of critical care.
