Successful candidates will be offered the minimum of the pay scale and in some circumstances salary negotiations will be dependent on the demonstration of skills and experience. All our roles come with an excellent benefits’ package, including the generous Civil Service Pension Scheme. Further salary increases depend entirely upon the outcome of our annual pay negotiation with central government. As a Senior Workforce Planning Analyst you’ll be at the helm of transforming how we manage and develop our most valuable asset – our people!  

You’ll be the mastermind behind forecasting resourcing needs, analysing workforce trends to developing strategic workforce planning strategies to ensure we have the right people in the right place at the right time to influence the growth, efficiency and long-term success at Companies House. 

At its heart, Strategic Workforce Planning it is about planning for the future, working with colleagues across the HR profession, with wide ranging specialisms in addition to wider organisational planning teams and communities to be ready for the future. This will help us achieve our ambition to be the best registry in the world and deliver our new legislation to tackle economic crime. 

You will understand our people by interpreting data through analysis at a strategic level to not only explain the internal narrative but provide market and industry intelligence to help focus on a range of challenges and issues to enable benchmarking through defined people metrics to identify gap analysis.  

You will recognise the importance of our people data and analytics to baseline our current position as an organisation. Determine current supply and future demand to challenge assumptions and scenario planning to develop robust workforce plans that make an impact and deliver overarching business objectives. 

You will have excellent analytical skills, with the ability to use a variety of data tools, technologies, programmes and sources to extract, blend and visualise data for different audiences ranging from the top-level committees to managers and support areas. You will produce predictive and prescriptive analysis that identifies areas of interest, encourages curiosity and discussion, and creates cultural shift. 

The Workforce Planning team regularly provide reports and insight to support the business. You will work with autonomy, be encouraged to be adaptable, bold and curious and challenge the status quo to ensure we continue to improve the value we’re adding to the organisation. 

Job description

As a senior member of the Workforce Planning team you will provide strategic support to the business through our Business Partners to understand future workforce requirements and facilitate the Strategic Workforce Planning function. You will do this by: 

Workforce planning: 

  • Developing workforce planning processes, including a range of forecasting models and frameworks to capture the information needed to Strategically Workforce Plan.  
  • Strategically engage our managers and leaders through our Business Partners to develop robust Workforce Plans where our People Data informs decision making, currently and for the future.   
  • Updating internal workforce planning practices and guidance and upskilling colleagues with emerging trends and continuous improvement to increase Strategic Workforce Planning capability and maturity across Companies House.   
  • Regular reporting of our workforce narrative, including wider HR transformation through robust products such as dashboards or other suitable visualisation tools to enable a culture of self-serve for our stakeholders to access the right people data at the right time. 
  • Planning, preparing and delivering external workforce planning data submissions that require in-depth analysis. 
  • Working closely with our Business Partners across a range of specialisms to gather insight on resource and capability and with senior managers and recruitment to use succession planning data to help fill key positions. 
  • Gathering business-wide workforce planning insights that also considers robust challenge through internal and external dependencies captured through tools such as PESTLE and/or SWOT.  
  • Engaging with other departments and external employers to network and share knowledge and experience and incorporating this into your work in a continuous improvement fashion.

People Analytics: 

  • Confidently articulating and presenting complex data and ideas to a range of stakeholders.
  • Working across our organisation to put in place robust data architecture and pipelines.
  • Producing analytical insights, using statistical techniques, to evidence findings and produce recommendations.
  • Using Excel, Power BI and other programmes to carry out analysis techniques on a holistic range of people metrics.
  • Possessing an eye for detail, and a proven ability to visualise data according to good practice and in a way that ensures the findings are easy to understand and interpret.
  • Informing and contributing to the design of data collection methods for internal people metrics.
  • Through analysis, determining the root cause of current and emerging workforce issues, and drive improvements and innovation.
  • Using an agile approach, create products of value iterating improvements over short sprints of time.

Person specification

We are looking for the following, which will be assessed at sift and interview. Please refer to this section and the elements in bold when writing your personal statement.

  • Extensive Strategic Workforce planning experience to be able to forecast and model the future workforce based on current and historic trends.  
  • Extensive data visualisation skills and experience of Microsoft PowerBI as well as other technologies such as Alteryx or other suitable people data analytical tools or technologies.   
  • The ability to understand wider business objectives and stakeholder needs such as our overarching strategies and business plans.  
  • Strong analysis skills with proven experience in analysing complex data to tell a compelling story.  
  • Experience with blending multiple data sources to tell a compelling story.
  • Excellent project management skills to effectively manage multi-strand and cross government projects.
  • Impactful communication skills to consult and influence key stakeholders and also provide support and mentoring.
  • Close attention to detail as data accuracy and protection are vital - you will champion our safe data principles.
  • Autonomous working to tight deadlines through effective prioritisation of tasks and workload, managing stakeholder expectations.
  • Good problem-solving skills to identify clear solutions.
  • CIPD qualified, or a willingness to work towards this.
