The 11th Signal Regiment (11th (RSS) SR) based at Blandford Forum in Dorset deliver world class technical IT and CIS training to Sailors, Soldiers and Aviators across a variety of engineering disciplines, we specialise in training Information Technology (IT) and Communications Information Systems (CIS) - to prepare Defence personnel for their current and future role of Defence IT and CIS engineers.
11th (RSS) SR at Blandford Camp are actively seeking technical specialists, with an ability to contribute effectively within a high performing team. You will be involved in developing Defence personnel by delivering technical training programmes that will develop them as engineers and technicians.
We have a vacancy for a Bowman Systems Manager trainer.
We are particularly interested in candidates from an engineering or technical background in radio communication systems and in particular the Bowman radio system.
Technical knowledge is paramount as training will be provided to enable successful candidate to carry out their role as a trainer in accordance with Defence Systems Approach to Training and the Defence Trainer Capability Framework.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
As an SIO, in accordance with JSP 822 and SIO MPD- Defence Policy documents you will be specifically responsible for:
- Delivering technical training ensuring conformity to authorised specifications.
- Providing an exciting, safe, and inclusive learning environment.
- Ensure compliance with personal responsibilities to students with Specific Learning Differences (SpLD)/Specialist Educational Needs.
- Acting as a Role Model ensuring that the highest standards of behaviour are maintained in accordance with the Defence Trainer Code of Conduct & Civil Service Code of Conduct.
- Monitoring student welfare and process any concerns through the chain of command in accordance Supervisory Care Directive.
- Undertaking role of an examination invigilator, ensuring any concessions or specialist requirements are carried out.
- Contributing to continuous improvement; maintaining own specialist subject matter expertise (knowledge and skills) and specialist subject content; undertake a minimum of 5 hours Continuous Professional Development (CPD) per annum to address developmental goals.
- Contributing to own continuous improvement; personally arrange for Instructional Techniques/Teaching Practice and Lesson Content Monitoring observations to be undertaken.
- Participating in internal and external evaluation audits as required.
Person specification
Responsible for the delivery of Bowman technical systems training and wider Information Technology and Information Communications Technology training.
Candidates should have served a recognised relevant apprenticeship or a relevant period of training and have obtained a Level 3, or equivalent, engineering qualification, with practical experience in a related field or have military experience in the Bowman radio system, and particularly the BSM system.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses.
