Our team champions the tech sector by leading on exciting set piece engagements such as London Tech Week and regional tech festivals. We lead on policy to ensure that tech clusters across the UK’s nations and regions can thrive, bringing economic growth and opportunity to their local areas. We promote diversity in the tech workforce to ensure that everyone, regardless of background, has the opportunity of a successful career in tech.

There are two roles available, between them covering the following responsibilities:

Lead DSIT’s work to promote diversity in the tech workforce. This will include:

  • Developing and delivering our policy work on diversity;
  • Considering how to use programme funding for maximum impact;
  • Working with partners across Government to ensure that wider policy agendas (eg. on skills, and DBT’s upcoming employment legislation) support diversity in tech.

Lead DSIT’s work to support regional tech ecosystems. This will include:

  • Developing and delivering our policy work on regional tech;
  • Working with teams across DSIT and wider departments to develop a strategic overview of existing HMG support for regional tech, identifying and addressing gaps to ensure the benefits of tech are felt across the UK.

Lead on tech sector engagement workstreams, including:

  • Developing a new function to bring strategic coherence to DSIT’s engagement with key tech companies;
  • Scoping out a new senior official-level forum for structured engagement with organisations representing the tech sector across the UK.
  • Support preparations for London Tech Week 2025, including owning discrete workstreams such as supporting No10 on PM-level events.

Manage the Tech Sector Team briefing hub:

  • Line management of two EOs who deliver briefings for ministerial engagements. Supporting the Briefing Hub so that Ministers are able to deliver cross-DSIT policy objectives through their engagements with tech sector partners.
  • The division of responsibilities between the two roles will be determined based on candidates’ experience and interests.

  • An ability to analyse and clearly present complex issues to different audiences.
  • A proactive approach to identifying issues, understanding problems, and developing practical, creative policy responses.
  • A strong background of building and managing relationships and communicating effectively with key partners.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to produce work to a high standard often within short timescales.

We'll assess you against these behaviours during the selection process:

  • Delivering at Pace
