Successful candidates will be offered the minimum of the pay scale and in some circumstances salary negotiations will be dependent on the demonstration of skills and experience. All our roles come with an excellent benefits’ package, including the generous Civil Service Pension Scheme.  Further salary increases depend entirely upon the outcome of our annual pay negotiation with central government. If you are a current Civil Servant transferring to us, your salary will be discussed in line with our pay policies.

Job description

As a Specialist Intelligence Manager, you will:

  • Provide supervision within the intelligence function for your team - by showing leadership, governance and ensuring professional development and accountability within a specialist intelligence environment.
  • Ensure timely and efficient delivery against the vision, objectives and organisational plans for your team within the Intelligent Hub.
  • Ensure excellent standards are in place for your team, to drive innovation and best practice.
  • Work in partnership with the other Intelligence Managers within the Intelligence Hub, to deliver an effective, cohesive and professional intelligence function.
  • Line Management responsibility for a minimum of 2 Band Cs
  • Regular travel (including overnight on occasions) required as appropriate with key stakeholders
  • Support the Senior Intelligence Manager and Deputy head of Intelligence in shaping this new team.
  • Assist in the Development and maintenance of processes, delivering high quality intelligence products, and other core intelligence functions to aid decision making, identifying intelligence gaps, and managing threat risk and harm, make recommendations and ensuring compliance with national standards and relevant legislation.
  • Assist in Building and providing leadership to a small team of intelligence staff, responsible for delivering an effective specialist intelligence function to tackle the misuse of corporate structures.

To be eligible for this role you also need to meet our Nationality requirements which are outlined below and also successful candidates must meet the security requirements for Developed Vetting (DV) before they can be appointed. To gain (DV) clearance you will need to have been a UK resident for a minimum of 10 years.

Person specification

We’re looking for somebody who has:

    • Strong communication skills, in both verbal and written communication.
    • The ability to demonstrate experience relating to intelligence collection, (including sensitive intelligence), and exploitation gained from law enforcement, government, and investigatory work.
    • A high level of personal resilience with the ability to adapt quickly to new demands and work flexibly to manage changing and conflicting priorities at pace
    • Experience of successfully managing and coordinating workload for self and others with minimum supervision, prioritising and meeting tight deadlines.
    • A requirement to hold, or undergo, DV vetting, prior to starting role · Proven leadership skills with the ability to demonstrate leading teams through significant organisational change.
    • The ability to develop effective working relationships and engage with staff and a range of stakeholders at all levels to achieve the desired outcomes.
    • A strong understanding and experience of working to the principles of the National Intelligence model, the intelligence cycle and the role of intelligence in the investigative process.
    • Ability to work full-time from an office environment.
    • Demonstrate experience of working and managing in a specialist/sensitive intelligence environment within Law Enforcement or a Government Department.

    You will sifted on the following criteria: 

    • Proven leadership experience within an Intelligence environment within Law Enforcement or Regulatory body.
    • Leadership behaviour to demonstrate proven leadership skills with the ability to demonstrate leading teams through significant organisational change and Experience of building capability in teams to meet current and future skills requirements.
    • Has to be currently DV vetted or willing to undertake this level of vetting.
    • Willing to Work from Cardiff office full time.

    What will the process look like?

    • We’ll carry out a sift of applications and successful candidates at sift will be invited to interview, where we’ll explore your skills, experiences, the behaviours mentioned in the advert and your strengths.

    Where will you be working?

    You will be aligned to our Cardiff office, where you will be expected to attend and work from the office full time due to the nature of the role. 

    Successful candidates must pass a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check before they can be appointed. BPSS is an entry level security check. It uses the Police National Computer (PNC) to make sure a candidate has no convictions. The check returns evidence of any current criminal record and un-spent convictions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

    Successful candidates must meet the security requirements for Developed Vetting (DV) before they can be appointed. To gain (DV) clearance you will normally need to have been a UK resident for a minimum of 10 years, and will need to successfully complete all stages of the vetting process which includes: 
    - Baseline Personnel Security Standard 
    - Departmental/Company Records Check 
    - Security Questionnaire 
    - Criminal Record Check 
    - Credit Reference Check 
    - Security Service Check
