You will be part of our expanding internal Application Development team, which develops and maintains several mission critical hybrid mobile applications for iOS.
Our applications are used by DVSA staff to perform essential activities such as the capture of practical driving tests, roadside enforcement encounters and annual vehicle tests.

Job description
You will:
- Have experience in web front-end or back-end development, with detailed knowledge of at least one programming language preferably Javascript or TypeScript.
- Work with our development teams to ensure we build sustainable and robust digital products.
- Work to modern development standards, practices, and techniques.
- Develop solutions that put the user and user experience first.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Building digital services and software solutions to serve a variety of user’s needs and complying with the Digital by Default service standard.
- Software development using Agile methodologies (particularly Scrum) as part of a dynamic team of other developers, testers, business analysts, product owners and scrum master’s to deliver quality software solutions.
- Implementing APIs for internal and external use.
- Developing solutions that put the user and user experience first.
- Creating a culture of collaboration between development teams and business partners to establish and enable accelerated delivery models.
- Unit testing of developed code.

Person specification
About you
You will have:
- Experience in Software Development, with a strong understanding of JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Experience of working in an Agile team and environment.
- Experience of good software design principles such as OOD, SOLID and design patterns.
- Experience coaching and mentoring.
Additional Information:
This role can be based in Bristol, Swansea, Nottingham, Newcastle, Oldham or Birmingham. Your presence at one of these locations will form part of the working arrangements agreed with you. We operate a hybrid working model giving you greater flexibility about where and when you work. Our expectation is that you will spend a minimum 60% of your time at your base location. Visits to other DVSA sites or work locations count towards this.

Selection process details
As part of the application process, you will be asked to complete a CV and Personal Statement (1000 words). Further details around what this will entail are listed on the application form.

Sift & Interview Dates
The sift is due to take place from the week commencing Monday 7th October 2024.
Interviews and assessments are due to take place from Wednesday 23rd October 2024.
This interview will be conducted via a video interview, details of which will be provided to you should you be selected for interview.
We will try to meet the dates set out in the advert. There may be occasions when these dates will change. You will be provided with sufficient notice of the confirmed dates.

DDaT Allowance
This role is part of the Digital Data and Technology profession and attracts an enhanced pay scale which is mapped to capability levels. The successful candidates starting salary will be determined by performance at interview and assessed capability level. There are two components to DDaT pay - base pay and DDaT allowance.
The role may also attract a DDaT allowance of up to £16,592. The amount, if afforded is determined by several factors one of which is assessed capability level.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo yearly capability assessments which may result in pay increases or decreases. A drop in capability in any given assessment period results in 12 month pay protection to allow candidates to retain prior capability level.
