Job summary
The Waste to Value and Clean Heat Team sits within the Construction, Infrastructure and Energy Cluster in Business Group. We support investment, growth and exports in a range of waste to value and clean heat technologies.
Our aim is to ensure that waste to value and clean heat technologies deliver economic growth as these sectors grow in value across the UK economy. The team is responsible for supporting a wide range of green industries including: Energy Efficiency, Energy from Waste, Heat Networks, Heat Pumps, Plastic Recycling and Sustainable Aviation Fuels. We are the department’s experts in these sectors. Our work is central to supporting the government’s net zero ambitions, including the warm homes plan, through driving the delivery of investment into these sectors developing both UK capability/capacity and supply chains.
We are a mixed team of experienced civil servants and industry specialists. The team has a broad remit and is central to providing knowledge and expertise to investors, DBT teams, and overseas colleagues navigating the UK landscape. We also support policy development across Whitehall through extensive engagement with policy teams across government aiming to shape and influence the investment environment in pursuit of growth.
The team is seeking a talented and ambitious individual to lead on the clean heat and energy efficiency sectors for the department. The postholder will need to be comfortable autonomously working at pace, have an ability to work closely and diplomatically with multiple stakeholders to develop and deliver priority projects, and have the ability to navigate complex and nuanced interactions between policy drivers.
DBT recognises and promotes an environment that welcomes and values diverse backgrounds, thinking, skills and experience. Having an inclusive organisation, where people are able to bring their ‘whole selves’ to work, enables everyone fulfil their potential and to produce their best work. We promote and encourage a range of flexible working patterns enabling staff to balance home and work responsibilities.
