Job summary
We are looking for a Senior Members Finance Clerk in our Finance Department at the House of Lords. This is an opportunity to join the team who are responsible for ensuring Members’ allowances and expenses claims are paid promptly and accurately. You will respond to queries and advise on the processes and schemes available to individuals, ensuring that claims are processed correctly and are in accordance with the relevant guidance.
This is an opportunity to work onsite at Parliament for 4 days a week and to work from home one day per week (with the possibility to increasing this to two days a week). This is an exciting position for someone who enjoys working within a small team, is confident working with numbers and can do so accurately, and who is able to clearly communicate with a range of stakeholders.
Job description
You’ll be accountable for –
- Application of the Members Finance Scheme which will include ensuring payments are accurate and correctly entered and processed on the accounting system.
- Administration of the Members’ Travel Credit Card Scheme which will involve overseeing all aspects of the scheme including cardholder agreements and guidance, new and replacement cards, reconciliation of statements and expense claims, and ensuring details are entered onto the system.
- Information management where you will be one of two defined process owners responsible for ensuring information is processed accurately and robustly.

Person specification
What we’re looking for
- Technical skills - Previous administrative experience and good IT skills, including knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office and computerised accounting systems.
- Analytical skills and problem solving – proven analytical and numerical skills; being comfortable with detailed number work, including manual calculations.
- Communication skills – Clear and accurate oral, written and online communications skills, including the ability to explain and clarify issues around Members’ Finance.
- Professionalism, tact and discretion – ability to apply a strong sense of professionalism, tact, discretion and confidentiality to the role.
- Accuracy – the ability to work under pressure, maintaining a high level of accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.
- Working flexibly – being able to work effectively and flexibly as part of a small team within the Finance Department.

- High level of administrative ability and initiative to organise your own workloads.
- Experience of using Business World accounting software.
- Knowledge or interest in learning continuous improvement methods.
