About Security Services Group (SSG)
The Security Services Group is a business unit within the DIO which assists the MoD and the wider Government Estate in meeting its security requirements.
SSG has over 230 staff located throughout the UK, Germany, Cyprus and Gibraltar who are responsible for the design, installation and maintenance of security systems across the MOD and Government Estate.

Job description
This vacancy is for the role of a commercial officer to join SSG's Commercial Team which has its HQ based in Shrivenham Defence Academy. We are looking for a proactive and knowledgeable individual with a strong reputation for innovation, delivery, and commercial excellence to join our commercial team in an exciting and variable role.
This is an interesting and challenging role within Government Security at high profile and technically complex Defence sites, Other Government Departments and Critical National Infrastructure security programs.

Person specification
Your primary function will be the delivery of commercial services and support to SSG teams and their priority customers, which comprises commercial support throughout the life of projects and programmes from initial Procurement Strategy development through to project / programme closure.
Key responsibilities include:
- Review and approve sales quotations to MOD and OGD customers.
- Develop understanding of the supply markets, categories and business context providing options and opportunities from a commercial perspective looking at aspects such as developing requirements, options analysis for routes to market, risks, benefits, and Social Value.
- Supporting Supply Chain Risk Assessments - Undertaking deep dives analysis and reports.
- Support negotiation and contract placement above level of delegation when required, highlighting novel and contentious issues to the Senior Commercial Officer to ensure satisfactory resolution.
- Supporting the Senior Commercial Officer in ensuring SSG adhere and conform with all agreed Government commercial processes and procedures and for assuring all the commercial activity undertaken is in accordance with the terms of your Commercial Letter of Delegation. In addition, you will need to ensure compliance with regulations, policy and commercial standard process.
- Maintain awareness of developments in procurement policy and commercial case law.
- You will require stakeholder leadership skills to help lead and develop SSG as a business unit and there will be ample opportunity to develop your own skills further by continuing professional development.
Qualifications:
- The successful candidate must ascertain a sales licence and a qualified Commercial Officer to Practitioner Level within 18 months of joining the organisation. This means you will have to study to achieve CI PS Level 4, and sit a MOD accreditation panel.
Desirable Experience and Skills:
- Overview and understanding of sourcing processes from initiation to contract award
- Experience of working in a commercial role or involvement in procurement or contract management
- Good communication, written and verbal and stakeholder management skills Awareness of public sector procurement legislation
Allowances:
- If applicable, this role may attract the Commercial Market Skills Allowance of up to E1500 per year.

The post does not offer relocation expenses.
