This is an outstanding opportunity offered within Commando Logistic Regiment, Royal Marines which is both varied and rewarding. Job description

As part of a team supporting the Commando Force operational output, you will be responsible for carrying out fault diagnosis of unit vehicles as well as inspections, servicing and repairs of them in line with unit requirements, in order to deliver maximum vehicle fleet availability. Management of the well specified workshop will be key to the overall success in the role and the existing team will advise on how to source consumables, tools and specialist equipment. You will also be required to conduct effective management of the military Joint Asset Management Equipment Support (JAMES) application which is used to record faults, work and maintenance of vehicles. Training will be given on this system; no prior knowledge is required. Equipment training may require attendance at residential courses, as required additional out of hours working and detached duty (work away from home base) may be required but will recompensed appropriately.

Person specification

We work in high pace close-knit teams and the post holder will be responsible for servicing, inspecting, maintaining, diagnosing faults and repairing all vehicles in the fleet. They will need to ensure all vehicle and equipment documentation is completed correctly, up to date by using the relevant MOD database and processes. They will also need to carryout mechanical, structural and electrical repairs in accordance with current regulation and legislation. The role also requires the post holder to deliver inspection and trade development training to members of the Equipment Support Team as required.

• Full UK Manual Driving License Cat B, D1, no more than 6 penalty points

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 Automotive Engineering
• DVSA Vehicle Inspector

    Professional qualifications can be achieved through an apprenticeship and range from Level 2 (equivalent to 5 GCSEs), Level 3 (equivalent to 2 A Levels), and Levels 4 -7, which can give you a foundation degree, a full Bachelor’s degree, or a Master’s degree.

    Apprenticeships normally last between 12 months - 3 years, depending on the level of the apprenticeship.

    Anyone can undertake an Apprenticeship and everyone, regardless of age, can benefit from developing their skills in an accredited way.

    Successful candidates can discuss their development options with their manager when in post.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working.  This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance.
