This is an exciting time to join the Finance Directorate in DBT.
Following on from the Machinery of Government change in 2023, we are transforming our finance function and operating model to best support the high-profile and often complex work of our department.
We are recruiting for two Deputy Directors for Finance Business Partnering who will lead teams that work across the department and its Partner Organisations to support DBT’s ambitious agenda. We build relationships and work in partnership with policy and delivery colleagues as well as other key stakeholders in corporate services, to provide a seamless end-to-end service.
Finance Business Partners support the development of policy and delivery plans and associated funding requirements, providing financial information, advice, challenge and assurance to enable effective decision making. They champion a value for money culture and embed a robust financial planning, management and control regime throughout the department.
Job description
These Deputy Director roles will oversee high-profile policy portfolios, leading a large team of Finance Business Partners and contributing to the objectives of the wider finance directorate. You will:
- Build credibility and influence with senior stakeholders while developing a good understanding of the strategic priorities of DBT business areas and their partner organisations
- Provide expert financial advice that increases the economy, efficiency and effectiveness of DBT's policies and programmes, influencing decision making and protecting our Accounting Officer.
- Champion the importance of value for money and strong financial management, ensuring robust stewardship of, and accounting for, public money, underpinned by effective planning, risk management and internal controls
- Lead and motivate a diverse team of finance professionals while playing a positive and active role in the leadership and development of the Finance Directorate
Person specification
- Experience of working at a senior level in finance, along with being a CCAB, CIMA or equivalent qualified chartered accountant.
- Confident in building and maintaining strong effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels, credibly challenging at the most senior levels in a professional manner.
- Experience of leading, motivating and inspiring a large team to deliver high performance and build capability.
- Evidence of delivering at pace under challenging and ambiguous circumstances, with an ability to respond quickly and appropriately to changing circumstance.
- Excellent strategic awareness and an ability to influence decision making in a political context
- Experience of providing insightful analysis and advice on complex issues and communicating this effectively to a variety of audiences including senior stakeholders.
