Job description

As the successful candidate, you will provide administrative and clinical support for the provision of dental care in Defence Primary Health Care Dental Centres (DC) to enhance force generation and operational capability and minimise dental morbidity on operations.

This is to include maintenance of clinical sessions, on average at least 1 session per week, guided by the Practice Manager Lossiemouth DC and prioritised and directed from the Senior Dental Officer (SDO)/Regional Headquarter (RHQ) chain of command (CoC) as required. The timings for such sessions will depend on local staffing levels (effected by staff absence/local detachment/illness etc) in order to provide DN cover. CDPM will, when in surgery be required to delegate some management tasks to Agenda for Change Band 4 Dental Nurse(s) as is normal in a dental centre.

The post holder may also include travelling to dental centres within the region other than their normal place of work either in a clinical or administrative capacity as required.

Person specification

Duties of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Undertaking CPD in the core subjects of medical emergencies, Infection Prevention control (IPC), disinfection and decontamination, radiography and radiation protection, legal and ethical issues and handling complaints, as recommended by the GDC.
  • To provide clinical and administrative support for the provision of dental care in DPHC dental centres (DC), to enhance force generation and operational capability and minimise dental morbidity on operations.
  • This role will be a job split between clinical chair-side support and support to practice management tasks. It is the line management (LM) responsibility to manage the time allocation to each role, whilst ensuring mentorship in practice management tasks as required. This will be achieved through collaboration, direction and guidance from RAF Lossiemouth DC, where the LM is based.
  • Act as the secretary for periodic practice meetings, disseminating agenda's and minutes to all DC staff.
  • Provide in house training to all staff as directed.
  • Manage and coordinate the Healthcare Assurance Framework, ensuring governance activities are undertaken in line with MOD policy.
  • Compile and submit dental returns in accordance with DPHC (D) SOP's.
