We have offices based in London* and Warrington, however, there will be opportunities to work from home which can be discussed with the successful candidate. - *For London based roles your contractual place of work will be Stratford. However, as that site will not be operational until early 2025 in the interim period you will be required to carry out your contractual duties from Vauxhall, or such other reasonable location, on a temporary basis. For the avoidance of doubt as your contractual place of work is Stratford, the move from any temporary place of work will not give rise to any entitlement to payments for travel time or costs under the Relocation and Excess Travel Policy.

Job summary

We are offering an exciting opportunity to join the Policing and Partner Engagement Unit (PPEU), a national police team working within the JICC, whose aim is to support frontline policing, wider law enforcement and international law enforcement partners, in the use of international tools and channels.  

Following a 4P approach (Prevent, Protect, Prepare and Pursue), your role in the JICC will enable police investigators to detect, deter, prevent and prosecute international criminality, leveraging capability from across the spectrum of UK and international law enforcement. Working within the JICC will engage national and international law enforcement partners and will require the role holder to apply their problem solving skills to enable continuous improvement across policing. The role will also involve novel and ongoing capability and capacity building, providing real-time investigative advice, as well working with partners to safeguard individuals and the wider public from the threats posed by international crime.

Job description

The Joint International Crime Centre (JICC) is the focal point for all International enquiries both into and out of the UK supporting national and international policing partners via the channels of INTERPOL and Europol. 

In addition, the JICC is the UK Central Authority for the UK Trade and Co-operation Agreement (TACA) focusing on locating fugitives in the UK and abroad for extradition. The JICC also work closely with the NCA International Liaison Officer (ILO) network and the Foreign Law Enforcement Community (FLEC).

The JICC is a high volume, high risk environment. Working at a national and international level, the JICC is a demanding, fast-paced and interesting place to work, were every day is different and presents new challenges.

What the Role Involves:

  • Responsibility for developing the unit’s strategic vision, managing an evolving team and delivering the Unit’s objectives
  • Line management of the officers and staff within the JICC (can include geographically dispersed officers across England & Wales)
  • Providing co-ordination and prioritisation of resources, ensuring appropriate support and a risk-based approach is given to the enquiries received by the team
  • Identifying opportunities in which the unit can improve its service and recommending/implementing change
  • Working collaboratively with stakeholders, such as the Home Office, NCA, ACRO, CPS and all other operational partners to deliver international crime-focused initiatives and national investigative/intelligence enhancement activities
  • Providing advice and guidance to key internal and external stakeholders as well as Senior Leaders
  • Delivering inputs and presentations to internal and external stakeholders
  • Prioritising multiple demands, considerate of risk and unit priorities
  • Monitor performance and collate information for Senior Officers
  • Any other responsibilities commensurate with a G3 role within the JICC

Positions available & Eligibility:

This role is a closed competition and to apply you need to be:

  • Substantive Police Inspector/Detective Inspector on a lateral basis
  • A police officer at the rank of Sergeant, on temporary promotion and with relevant experience to the role
  • Police Staff manager, or supervisor on temporary promotion and with relevant experience to the role

Desirable Criteria:

  • An understanding of the challenges facing international policing
  • Knowledge of international tools and processes
  • An understanding of the National Police landscape, including how police engage and interact with other agencies, partners and stakeholders – i.e. NPCC, Home Office, ROCUs and police forces in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

    Additional Information 

    • The NCA is a 24/7 organisation, and working patterns must support business requirements. Some roles may require you to respond at short notice or outside of core hours.
