The Met Office is delighted to open our advertising for a number of Industrial Placements, which will commence from July 2025 until July 2026.

We’re looking for an exceptional Property Management (Estates) Industrial Placement to help us make a difference to our planet. 

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Met Office on a 12-month Year in Industry placement, developing your skills and knowledge and ensuring you gain the most value possible from your experience with us. You will have the opportunity to network with our cohort of Industrial Placements all over the Met Office and understand what career opportunities we can offer you after you graduate.

As our Property Management (Estates) Industrial Placement, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.

Job description

Your world of expertise 

Our Industrial Placement scheme offers ambitious and capable undergraduates the opportunity to gain valuable experience working alongside diverse and highly skilled experts in their field.  You’ll be working on projects that really matter and will make a difference.

You will be a member of the Met Office Property Management team, assisting in the implementation of the key estate management duties across a diverse Met Office property portfolio to ensure the delivery of an operationally efficient and effective estate.  

Your key duties 

  • Estate Strategy - Help enable the Met Office Estate Strategy, including implementation of strategic Met Office and government business drivers and policy to develop your own knowledge;
  • Estate Management - engage in management of landlord & tenant matters including acquisitions and disposals relating to maximising and optimising performance of the diverse Met Office estate; 
  • Stakeholder Engagement - work with internal and external stakeholders to enable provision of timely professional value added advice to assist in the management of the Met Office estate and the effective delivery of projects to meet business needs;   
  • Data & Records Management - help maintain and improvement effective Met Office Estate records and systems to improve data capture and knowledge.

Person specification

Essential Criteria, skills and experience: 

  1. Working towards Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) accredited degree (Real Estate Management or similar) - Met Office are experts by nature, always learning and developing to do things better.
  2. Ability to work collaboratively and as part of a team - Met Office are better together understanding partnerships and inclusivity make us greater.  
  3. Personal drive and ability to complete work effectively and innovatively - Met Office live and breathe it, putting our purpose at the heart of decision making.
  4. Excellent communication skills.
