If so, we would like to hear from you. We are looking to recruit Deployment Officers at the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) based in Newcastle.

Job description

Reporting to the Deployment Manager you will manage Driving Examiner resources, ensuring that Examiners are available to meet the driving test demand across the country.

You will take action when absences are reported and be responsible for the deployment of examiners at short notice.

You will also be accountable for actioning any requests for travel and hire cars that come into the office. You will be using your excellent communication skills daily - be it over the telephone or email to ensure that DVSA can give the best customer service possible.

This is a varied and very interesting role which is always busy so if you have a proven ability to be flexible and deliver to tight deadlines, we would welcome your application.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Deploying examiners to meet demand, whilst ensuring test availability across all categories in all areas.
  • Taking action to cover examiners absences where required.
  • Maintaining accurate examiner, and test centre data on our internal systems, ensuring the accurate generation of programmes for all digital channels.
  • Applying sound judgement when considering whether to cover or cancel if not short notice.
  • Implementing all changes/updates in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring availability of all non-standard test types in accordance with their targets.
  • Programming notes and written responses are concise and relevant.

Person specification

You have a sound knowledge base of all Microsoft Office packages and are comfortable using them daily. You have experience of working to tight deadlines and working with conflicting demands with the autonomy to decide what priority to give to each.

You have excellent Interpersonal skills with a strong customer service ethos. You will have brilliant stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build long distance relationships in the working environment.

Above all you are someone who is passionate about delivering great customer service and always striving to improve.

Additional Information

This role is based in Newcastle, your presence at one of these locations will form part of the working arrangements agreed with you. We operate a hybrid working model giving you greater flexibility about where and when you work. Our expectation is that you will spend a minimum 60% of your time at your base location. Visits to other DVSA sites or work locations count towards this. 

Whilst we welcome applications from those looking to work with us on a part time basis, there is a business requirement, for the successful candidate to be able to work at least 32 hours per week. 

Due to the evolving nature of the business, vacancies can become available at any time. Therefore, this campaign may create a reserve list to fulfil demand if it arises which will be held for a period of 12 months.

If you successfully pass the tests, you will be invited to complete the final stage of the application (Personal Statement). If you are successful at both the application and Civil Service Verbal test you will be invited to an interview.

  • Your experience engaging with colleagues and working as a team.
  • Your experience of managing time effectively to meet a deadline.
  • Your experience in the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams).
  • Your experience of using your verbal and written communication skills to share information.

Your Personal Statement will be limited to a maximum of 750 words.

Interviews are likely to be held week commencing 11 November 2024.

This interview could be conducted via a video interview, details of which will be provided to you should you be selected for interview.
