Job summary

The Senior Case Manager supports the Registry Operations Manager in ensuring the arrangements for all appeals and applications to the UKSC and the JCPC are dealt with in an efficient, timely and appropriate manner. The role includes assisting our customers with filing their cases at the Court using the online portal, answering calls and correspondence, and referencing the Court’s Rules and Practice Directions.

Job description

As Senior Case Manager, the postholder is a key member of the Registry Team and supports the Registry Operations Manager through: 

Managing Cases and Legal Support:

  • Issue appeals and applications ensuring that the Supreme Court/Board has jurisdiction to hear the case and that the papers filed meet the requirements of the practice directions.
  • Advise and assist parties.
  • Preparing orders for the Registrar.
  • Offer advice and guidance relating to the meaning of the practice directions, preparation of appeal/application papers, and the jurisdiction of the Court/Board.
  • Prepare papers to go to the Justices for PTA applications. 

Case Management System Product and Process Ownership:

  • Updating and supporting the UKSC’s Case Management System (CMS) using Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Power Pages platforms to manage case-related correspondence and data.

 System Management and Troubleshooting:

  • Identify and fix issues with data or processes in the CMS.
  • Administer CMS settings, configure audit settings, test changes, and document updates. 

Data and Content Maintenance:

  • Update reference data, including templates and product catalogues, to ensure any changes are reflected.
  • Maintain the content on the CMS, ensuring application forms, pages, branding, and hyperlinks are up to date.

 User Training and Support:

  • Provide support and training to internal and external users to improve their experience and increase their confidence in using the CMS and User Portal.

 Governance and System Enhancement:

  • Customise and maintain CMS business processes, views, dashboards, forms, and fields.
  • Oversee CRM enhancements by prioritising the backlog of improvements and changes.
  • Propose and implement enhancements to improve system functionality.

Registry Operational Support:

  • Preparation of monthly statistical information as required.
  • Perform other tasks as delegated by the Registry Operations Manager or Registrars to assist the Registry and other areas of the Court. This may include other duties such as stepping in to usher in Court when necessary.
  • Managing the archive of past appeals and historic data.
  • Supervising or Managing Case Managers and/or Registry Support Officers to support the Registry Operations Manager.

Customer Service:

  • Act as the first point of call for members of the public, solicitors, barristers, and other members of the legal profession overseas. 

Judicial and Court Support

  • Showing flexibility to assess different priorities each day depending on the hearings listed and the needs of the Justices.
  • Engaging with the Change Programme to support the Court’s objective to be a world-leading Court.

Person specification

Essential criteria:

  1. Excellent understanding and experience of providing customer service
  2. Excellent attention to detail / accuracy
  3. Excellent communication skills and confidence working with people at all levels   
  4. Practical experience of using Microsoft Office and proven IT skills   
  5. Adaptable and flexible approach with the ability to change priorities as required

Desirable:

  1. Knowledge and understanding of the Court system in the United Kingdom
  1. Experience working with members of the Judiciary and in a court setting
  2. Familiarity preparing complex court bundles or detailed paperwork
  3. Understanding of the Rules and Practice Directions of the UKSC and JCPC or experience/knowledge of working with equivalent detailed rules and regulations
  4. Experience supervising or managing others
