Job summary
Welcome to the Royal Air Force Officer Training Academy (RAFOTA). This is a great opportunity to work as part of inclusive organisation working hard to support Officer Cadets graduating from Phase 1 training into the Royal Air Force. The business systems team supports a diverse staff group of Regular and reservist RAF personnel, civil servant personnel and contractors, with course programme and IT admin support.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
The main duties of the role include, but are not limited to:
- Liaise with Squadron Staff and Policy & Programme Dept (PolProg) to allocate classrooms ahead of each RAFOTA Course
- Liaise with PolProg to check booking and coordination of all external training deliverers for RAFOTA during the next financial year
- Make minor approved changes to live Course Programme and notify relevant personnel
- Update bespoke Training Management Systems (in house training available)
- Assist Business Systems Manager and Business Systems Officer with IT admin support
- A good understanding of Microsoft O365 applications
- Attend role related meetings and training courses
Person specification
The job holder will be responsible to the Business Systems Manager (BSM). They will assist the PolProg with the Course Programme and aid BSM with IT admin support. This role is suited to a flexible, motivated individual with excellent interpersonal skills, as the role has a strong customer focus. It is essential to have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Apps (incl Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and the ability to prioritise assigned tasks and work to fixed deadlines maintaining a high level of attention to detail. The post requires an individual who can work independently but also enjoys being part of a team.
The role encompasses both desk work and physical handling of IT equipment. Flexible working is available (after a 6 month probation period) subject to LM agreement and business needs being met. The individual must understand and comply with current policies and guidelines, within their area of responsibility, and be able to advise and communicate effectively with personnel.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses.
External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
