Job summary
This is an Executive Officer (EO) Grade positions for an Interviewer Manager. You would need to work within either one of these locations: North West, East and East Midlands and London. The Inner London payrate applies to applicants living within a 10-mile radius of WC2 5HS; The Outer London payrate applies between 10 miles and 18 miles radius of WC2 5HS. If you reside beyond 18 miles from WC2 5HS, the pro-rate salary will be at the national rate.

This post sits with Social Surveys Collection (SSC) which delivers many of Great Britain’s largest social surveys. Our purpose is to provide high quality data to underpin core National Statistics and the wider statistical system. While much of ONS relies on them for outputs and statistical bulletins, the statistics we generate also support research, policy development and decision-making across the public and private sectors. The Social Survey Collection Division is one of the largest divisions within ONS, with approximately 1,400 colleagues.
Underpinning all this work is our mission statement, which reads: "We are a flexible and diverse community of data collection experts, and our mission is to collect and deliver high quality, trusted social survey data from the public, utilising robust, sustainable and innovative processes to paint a picture of rapidly changing life in the United Kingdom.
There is a requirement to work a minimum of 30 hours per week across 4 days.
Job description
Interviewer Managers manage a team of up to 15 interviewers carrying out a range of social surveys with members of the public in the local geographical location. Interviewer Managers (IM) are equivalent to the Executive Officer (EO) grade and are placed on Homeworking contracts.
Travel to the areas you cover, will be expected as required by operational needs which could be as regularly as weekly. The locations to choose between are: North West, East and East Midlands and London.
Responsibilities:
The role will include:
- Support and monitor interviewer performance against agreed survey and interviewing guidance, being prepared to work extensively with each interviewer in the field to provide support and build capability.
- Interpret, act on and feedback results of management information within the team to maximise flexibility, response and quality of the survey outcomes.
- Provide effective communications to team and to colleagues as required
- Ensure conduct, under-performance and attendance matters related to staff in team are pursued and dealt with in line with ONS policy and procedures, escalating difficult cases to the HEO (Field Operations Manager).
- Ensure effective and efficient use of own and team's time and travel in line with central guidance and the most economic use of travel and subsistence.
- Work closely with IM team to ensure consistent procedures and practices are aligned to the strategic direction of the Field Community
