Job description
As an Intelligence Officer you will be expected to undertake the following tasks:
- Undertake an investigative role - by gathering information within ethical guidelines and best practice standards and in accordance with the relevant legislation, to meet operational objectives
- Build and maintain a network of internal and external partners – to respond to requests for information and intelligence exchange
- Develop relationships and understanding of work streams with colleagues and team members, to further operational awareness of roles and to support partnership working
- Maintain information on the intelligence system
- Facilitate information and intelligence sharing to relevant parties - in line with confidentiality, sensitivity and duty of care policies and relevant legislation - to achieve shared objectives with our internal and external partners
- Make effective decisions, evaluate and share intelligence to drive operational activity
- Provide recommendations on how threats can be resolved
About the Team
It’s an exciting time to join the Intelligence team! The team consists of a number of people with a variety of skills focussing on ensuring an accurate register and preventing companies for carrying out unlawful activities or facilitating others to do so.
As our Intelligence department continues to grow and develop, we have lots of opportunities available.
To be eligible for this role you also need to meet our Nationality requirements which are outlined below and also successful candidates must meet the security requirements for Security Clearance (SC) before they can be appointed. To gain (SC) you will need to have been a UK resident for a minimum of 3 years out of the last 5 years.

We’re looking for individuals with practical experience of:
- Research Skill, gathering information from a wide range of sources with an eye for detail
- Problem solving skills thinking outside the box
- Writing, drafting and good presentation skills
- Experience on Microsoft apps especially Excel and Word
- Developing relationships with stakeholders
- Being able to work alone and part of a team
And who also have:
- Great communication skills – in both verbal and written communication
- Confidence in using information to make informed decisions
- The ability to be adaptable and flexible in line with workloads

Selection process details
All our recruitment at Companies House uses the Civil Service Success Profiles framework, which will assess your behaviours, strengths and experience. Our recruitment process is underpinned by recruitment which is fair and open with decisions made on merit, as outlined in the Civil Service Commissioners’ Recruitment Principles.
In your application form we’d like you to:

- We’d like you to write a personal statement of 750 words.
- We'd also like you to write 250 words where you tell us about a time you have made an effective decision in an intelligence environment. If we get a high volume of applications we will carry out a pre-sift by reading and scoring these 250 words.

What will the process look like?
- If we receive a high number of applications, we will carry out a pre-sift based on the 250 words you write about a time you've made an effective decision in an intelligence environment. Candidates who are successful at pre-sift stage will progress to the main sift where we will read and score the rest of the application form.
- If we don't receive a high number of applications we will consider the 250 words you write about a time you've made an effective decision in an intelligence environment, as part of the main sift.
- Successful candidates at main sift will be invited to interview, where we’ll explore your skills, experiences, the behaviours mentioned in the advert.
Where will you be working?
You will be aligned to our Cardiff office, where we are currently using a hybrid approach to the way we work. Our approach to hybrid working provides opportunities for you to be adaptable in the way you work so that you can achieve a healthy balance between your work and home life. The degree of choice you have will depend on business need, your role and your day-to-day work activities and will be discussed at offer stage.
Successful candidates must pass a Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check before they can be appointed. BPSS is an entry level security check. It uses the Police National Computer (PNC) to make sure a candidate has no convictions. The check returns evidence of any current criminal record and un-spent convictions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
Successful candidates must meet the security requirements for Security Check (SC) before they can be appointed. To gain (SC) clearance you will normally need to have been a UK resident for a minimum of 5 years, and will need to successfully complete all stages of the vetting process which includes:
- Baseline Personnel Security Standard
- Departmental/Company Records Check
- Security Questionnaire
- Criminal Record Check
- Credit Reference Check
- Security Service Check
Nationality statement
Candidates will be subject to UK immigration requirements as well as Civil Service nationality rules. If you're applying for a role requiring security clearance, please be aware that foreign or dual nationality is not an automatic bar.
