Job summary

As an important part of the Ministry of Defence, Defence Intelligence (DI) provides intelligence analysis, specialist outputs and advice that supports decision making across government. At the heart of DI is the National Centre for Geospatial Intelligence (NCGI).

As part of NCGI the Defence Geographic Centre (DGC) provides geographic information, services, and liaison to UK Defence and the wider Intelligence Community. It has comprehensive production, collection, information management and dissemination capabilities staffed by specialist Defence Geographers.

The Business Management teams (including Health and Safety, Stores and iHub) are critical to the effective running of the MOD Feltham site. They work with the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and contractors to ensure that physical site infrastructure supports the needs of the business.

The DGC Unit Fire Safety and Infrastructure Lead will support Business Management Infra Head and the wider Business Management division to ensure the fire safety, legality and compliance of the MOD Feltham site. There will also be opportunity to become involved in wider infrastructure projects outside of the fire remit, and support with future site closure activity.

This post is advertised at 37 hours per week. Applicants are asked to note that this is a 2-year fixed term appointment, with the possibility of extension, until the MOD Feltham site is handed over to DIO for closure as part of the PRIDE2 rationalisation programme. This is currently forecast to take place in the 2027-28 time-frame.

Strategic Command is going through a significant transformation programme which aims to improve the way the Command conducts its business and delivers for Defence and the nation. As a consequence of this, all posts within Strategic Command Headquarters and in time the wider organisation, are/will be subject to review and potential changes as we continuously improve across the period of the transformation programme. These changes may be minor or could be more substantive and will generate new opportunities.  Throughout, the Command’s transformation programme is committed to following the MOD’s framework on managing and supporting people through the change process and places an emphasis on early and open consultation and engagement with the Command’s personnel and Trade Unions.

Job description

This is a Fixed-term Appointment as a Unit Fire Safety and Infrastructure Lead in the Business Management team. Your responsibilities will be as described in this job advert. The reason why you are appointed for a fixed period is due to the Feltham site closing as part of the PRIDE2 rationalisation programme. This is currently forecast to take place in the 2027-28 time-frame. This post will therefore begin on your appointment and end 24 months after that date. You should be aware that when your Fixed-term Appointment at MOD comes to an end, arrangements will be made in line with the FTA policy.

If you are a permanent MoD civil servant and are found successful for an advertised Fixed-term Appointment (FTA) you should move into the post under a Temporary Transfer (for up to a maximum of 23 months). At the end of the posting you will return to your previous MoD Business area. If this posting is at a higher grade, your promotion will be temporary, and you will return to your substantive grade at the end of the Temporary Transfer. If a Temporary Transfer cannot be agreed between all parties then a transfer on an FTA contract is possible, read the FTA and Change of Work Location in the UK policy for further information.

If you are transferring to MoD from another government department (OGD) you should join the MoD on an inward loan. At the end of the loan you will return to your home (OGD) department. If a loan cannot be agreed between all parties then a transfer on an FTA contract is possible, read the FTA policy for further information.

Main Responsibilities:
