About the role:

Join Forestry England during an exciting period of ambitious growth in our fundraising efforts. As Individual Giving Fundraising Manager, you will be crucial in helping to support our fundraising activities through excellent project management and creative strategies.

Reporting to the Senior Individual Giving manager, this hands-on role requires excellent project management of all elements of our fundraising programme, managing multiple projects simultaneously to deliver on time, within budget and to agreed standards. You will work closely with Forestry England Districts to support their income-generating potential, manage an exciting in-memory programme, help launch a new regular giving programme, support fundraising appeals, develop robust supporter journeys to aid retention, promote our gifts in Wills programme and work across the organisation to maximise cross-promotions.

You must be passionate about our work and keen to understand what motivates and inspires individuals to donate to Forestry England. With excellent relationship management and communication skills at all levels, and a proven track setting and delivering fundraising plans.

This role is perfect for an individual who is eager to expand and broaden their knowledge of fundraising, story-telling, project management and budget setting. We're looking for a talented, enthusiastic individual who loves a challenge!

Job description

Purpose:

To support the development, growth and delivery of Forestry England’s individual giving fundraising programme.

To develop individual giving fundraising projects to acquire new supporters, retain and increase the value of existing donors, monitor performance and make recommendations to improve results.

Key Work Areas:

Acquisition and Retention:

  • Develop a cause-led approach to fundraising within our Forest Centres, working closely with Districts to coordinate and maximise onsite fundraising potential.
  • Manage an in-memory programme which will support an income growth strategy.
  • Support effective acquisition approaches for the cash and regular giving programmes to increase fundraising income through both online and offline activities.
  • Work collaboratively to ensure that our supporters are at the heart of any developments, to ensure excellent supporter and donor engagement through appropriate channels, to minimise donor attrition, and to deliver excellent supporter stewardship to aid retention.
  • To use the power of storytelling to drive supporter acquisition and retention.

Analysis and budgets:

  • Evaluate fundraising activity against budgets and KPIs, making recommendations for future developments to improve performance.
  • Help set annual budgets with regular forecasting.

Other:

  • Be a champion for fundraising activity across the organisation, providing support and guidance.
  • Manage escalated supporters’ queries and/or complaints and ensure they are dealt with appropriately to avoid reputational risk.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of compliance and best practices as per the ICO and Fundraising Regulator and ensure that all activities undertaken by Individual Giving comply fully with the Fundraising Code of Practice.

The location of this post is flexible as its responsibilities cover the whole of England. The post holder will be expected to be in the Bristol office on a regular basis. 

As the post involves dealing with contacts across Forestry England, regular travel with stays away from home is a requirement of this post.

This is a full-time role for 37 hours per week, which will normally be worked Monday to Friday each week. However, the nature of the work includes requirement for some rostered working to cover work on some weekends, public and privilege holidays and evenings (with the exception of Christmas Day).

Person specification

Essential Professional and Technical experience:

  • Individual giving or fundraising experience within a complex organisation.
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering successful income-generation programmes.
  • Experience in engaging audiences with the ability to produce compelling copy, and developing successful cases for support and supporter journeys.
  • Ability to set and manage budgets, effectively forecasting fundraising income.
  • Experience of CRM systems, ideally Salesforce, for analysing fundraising performance and for planning.
  • Strong written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills including IT.

Desirable Professional and Technical experience:

  • A relevant qualification to degree standard or equivalent.
  • Experience in project management in large, complex organisations.
