About the role
This is an opportunity to work in the Board Secretariat, providing business management and private office support to the HMCTS Board Chairman and the HMCTS Non-Executive Directors, supporting the HMCTS Board and the HMCTS Executive Team and their supporting committees, working with a range of senior stakeholders. A key role in ensuring that the organisation is run effectively, manages risk, and delivers on its key objectives. This role is also part of the team within HMCTS that supports and promotes the nomination process for Honours and Royal Garden Parties within HMCTS.
Key responsibilities
- Providing business management/private office support for the HMCTS Chairman and Non-Executive Board Members.
- Developing and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.
- Managing relevant committees and making sure the supporting and administrative processes work effectively.
- Proactively managing forward programmes and commissioning, ensuring that they are focused on delivery of organisational objectives as set out in the HMCTS Business Plan and wider Corporate Strategy.
- Working with colleagues across the organisation to ensure issues are brought to relevant committees at the right time and to support decision making at the highest level.
- Regularly reviewing and applying good governance practice to relevant committees, in respect of areas such Terms of References and effectiveness reviews.
- Drafting accurate minutes of committee meetings, ensuring actions are proactively tracked and delivered.
- Managing and administering the process for promoting, commissioning, sifting, and analysing nominations for Honours and Royal Garden Parties.
Other duties
Due to the frequent level of exposure to sensitive and high-profile issues, you will be expected to work professionally and exercise discretion where necessary.
The post holder is required to work in a flexible way and undertake any other duties reasonably requested which are commensurate with the grade and level of responsibility of this post.

The ideal candidate for this position should demonstrate:
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Experience of a pressurised role working closely with senior leaders and working to short deadlines/dealing with emerging/rapidly changing high profile situations
- Confident in building and maintaining effective relationships with a wide variety of people
- Excellent planning and organising skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills and editorial expertise with attention to detail and accuracy
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Experience of working in support of senior staff and non-executive board members helping to improve their effectiveness.
- Knowledge and experience of secretariat practices.
- Experience of drafting high-quality minutes.
