Job summary
We’re looking for an inspirational leader who will drive and deliver the Organisational Design and Development (OD & D) strategy, in tandem with the wider Companies House organisational strategy.
The Head of OD & D will be responsible for defining and implementing our corporate interventions, leading our culture change and engagement approach and playing a key role in our transformation journey.

Job description
The Head of Organisational Design and Development will take the lead in ensuring that we effectively transition from our current operating model towards our desired future model. Leading this key project and ensuring we bring colleagues with us through this change will be essential, and this will be the focus of the role for at least the next 12 months.
Following the development of the target operating model, the breadth of the role will expand to include overseeing the implementation of the target operating model, culture, engagement, equality, Diversity and Inclusion, talent, and learning and development.
You will provide specialist, expert advice to the People Director and the Executive Board in the further development of our approach to organisational culture, employee engagement, continuous improvement and employee wellbeing. You will understand the organisations complexities, working with stakeholders to address organisational design and development challenges in a way that creates clarity and optimises performance.
In addition, the role will also oversee all aspects of learning and development (L&D), working across Heads of Profession and with other departments to develop strategies that improve organisational performance and capability.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure organisational development and design strategies and plans are proactively developed and are aligned to the organisation’s strategic objectives.
- Cross organisational working to develop, implement and embed our new target operating model
- Provide senior leadership to the wider Organisational Development team, building capacity and capability, and play a valued role in our organisation wide Corporate Leadership Group and throughout Companies House
- Partnering at a senior level across the organisation to engage leaders in our organisational development interventions, bringing them and their teams on the journey of change.
- Enhancing leadership at every level through development and delivery of high-quality capability programmes and activities, including the provision of advice and support to people managers
- Create a culture of continuous improvement to enhance our organisational performance, drive positive change, and achieve our strategic goals
- Development and implementation of plans to nurture and develop talent for future leadership roles. Implement a formal succession planning framework for critical posts to maintain service continuity and effective leadership.
- Provide advice and support to Executive Directors and support the Chief Executive to develop the senior leadership team.
- Developing a range of measures and identifying metrics to assess the impact of all aspects of OD&D work.
- Create an environment that allows people to perform to their highest levels and bring their best selves to work every day via a holistic understanding of what inspires growth and learning in the workforce.
- Enhancing our engagement methods, encouraging the use of new technologies and approaches to align employees to our shared values and behaviours.
Person specification
We are looking for someone who has:
- Experience in organisational development and design, particularly within large and complex organisations.
- Experience in working across a range of stakeholder groups to implement new operating models, gaining trust and obtaining buy-in.
- Strategic thinking with the capability to see the big picture and align OD and D initiatives with organisational goals.
- Experience in providing senior-level advice, support and challenge to executive leaders. Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to make effective decisions and deliver results at pace.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to manage complex projects.
- Knowledge of the latest trends and best practices in organisational development and design.

You will be aligned to our Cardiff Office, where we are currently using a hybrid approach to the way we work. - Experience in providing senior-level advice, support and challenge to executive leaders. Ability to make effective decisions and deliver results at pace.
- MCIPD or other relevant professional qualifications (such as a degree in organisational psychology) or a minimum of 2 years' experience as an Organisational Development and Design practitioner.
