Successful candidates will be offered the minimum of the pay scale and in some circumstances salary negotiations will be dependent on the demonstration of skills and experience. All our roles come with an excellent benefits’ package, including the generous Civil Service Pension Scheme. Further salary increases depend entirely upon the outcome of our annual pay negotiation with central government.

Job summary

We’re going through an exciting change at Companies House, as our new powers are being introduced, and we’re looking for an Operational Case Manager to join our busy Integrity & Enforcement (I&E) team in our Edinburgh Office.

We need a committed, confident and adaptable individual, who can work independently but who is also great as part of a team; working together to deliver more for our customers.

Job description

Our Operational Case Manager will:

  • Manage I&E cases – working in an organised way, thinking constructively, judging each case on its merits.
  • Receive, consider and resolve complaints relating to the register.
  • Produce and deliver reports by collecting, interpreting and evaluating all relevant data and customer information.
  • Assess customer responses and make decisions regarding enforcement using information provided and already held by us, including reporting cases for prosecution.
  • Record the rationale for actions taken and decisions made.
  • Evaluate and understand when cases require escalation and effectively follow our internal processes and the law.
  • Work with courts and other government departments.

Work with customers and stakeholders to:

  • Understand the nature of issues presented and make informed decisions, using information and intelligence received, to take appropriate action.
  • Use our new powers to query information with customers and advise about potential sanctions.
  • Follow up on requests for information where no response has been received.
  • Respond to enquiries accurately, seek information and query outcomes.
  • Seek the filing of information where this is found to be missing or inaccurate.

Work with colleagues to:

  • Communicate and collaborate with a wide variety of colleagues whilst also acting as a point of reference and advice for colleagues who identify suspicious activity.
  • Take part in case conferences with senior colleagues, feeding back intelligence received, developing their own knowledge of legislation and case law and suggesting improvements in the team’s processes.
  • Play your part in the Edinburgh Management team by carrying out tasks required in your role as a manager.

Person specification

We’re looking for an Operational Case Manager with:

  • Great communication skills, including: Written and spoken communication skills - to produce high quality personalised written correspondence and be bold to have effective customer conversations over the phone.
  • Confidence to have challenging conversations with customers and give evidence in court.
  • Team working and stakeholder communication skills – to communicate and work well with senior colleagues, escalating complex cases and seeking advice.
  • Innovative ideas to share - to suggest new ways of working.
  • Analysis and decision-making skills, including: Being able to interpret evidence and work with complex data with the confidence to make informed decisions, judging individual cases on their merits.
  • The ability to follow and apply our guidelines and policies when pursuing investigations and making recommendations to improve our ways of working.
  • Great quality skills, including: The ability to use IT systems well.
  • Self-motivation - to manage your own workload well.

Where will you be working? 

You will be aligned to our Edinburgh Office and will be working in the Edinburgh I&E team. This role includes the opportunity for hybrid working. Hybrid workers can work partly from the office and partly from their home, depending on business needs. We’ll provide colleagues with lots of support. During your training, there may be a need for increased office attendance whilst you learn your role.
