Job summary
To drive international client account development and proactively identify and develop contacts, leads and business from UK and International Corporate clients.
To proactively work with relevant Industry Agencies, Partners and Corporates to maximise business development opportunities and maintain positive relationships across all event industry sectors and partners, in conjunction with CEO and Sales & Marketing Director.
Job description
Key Tasks
- To professionally and effectively employ sales skills to achieve targeted sales as established by the Sales and Marketing Director and detailed within the Sales Strategy.
- To proactively develop and implement sales strategies and plans to develop relationships, generate enquiries and attract business from international markets.
- To work with external partners, agencies and industry bodies to further develop existing and new international contacts and markets
- Develop and undertake an annual programme of prospective international and UK client engagement including participation at tradeshows and conferences, coordination of sales missions and direct sales calls.
- Achieve minimum average of 5-10 face-to-face, qualified appointments per month with prospective clients.
- Devise and implement annual programme of targeted tele research and sales to identify prospective leads and clients.
- Research, identify and contact a minimum of 40-50 qualified prospective clients per month.
- To expand and maintain an accurate and current international client database working with external third-party resources as well as QEII’s Marketing team.
- To fully utilise and exploit industry partners data bases and research tools to identify and develop sources of potential clients, including but not limited to International Corporate clients.
- Advise Sales & Marketing Director of client feedback/comments relating to product content and pricing as well as Centre performance.
- Provide a monthly schedule of planned activities
- Achieve sales activities within specified time scales as set out in the Sales Strategy Plan and directed by the Sales & Marketing Director
- Proactively contribute to communication channels within the sales team and between all QEII teams, as well as exchange information, in order to maximise collaborative approach and sales effectiveness and opportunities.
- To ensure contracted international client events are handed over to Event Management and Operational teams with a comprehensive analysis of client needs, objectives and potential secondary sales opportunities.
- Participate in sales team and management team workshops and business management and planning forums and activities.
- Contribute and participate in sales forecasting and target setting for the Centre.
- To develop an annual programme of client entertaining and promotional events in respect to international clients in conjunction with the Sales and Marketing Director.
- Represent the Centre on/within professional bodies and associations in order to maximise the Centre’s profile, engagement and, if applicable, benefits of membership.
- Provide time-phased, qualified reports on achievement and activities
- Plan diary to make effective use of working day
- Maintain accurate records of all contacts with clients and associated EBMS files
- Handle correspondence relating to selling activities
- Obtain necessary authority for expenses and record same in line with Centre’s policy.

Additional information: the post holder will, in the course of their duties, be required to travel to meet clients, attend conferences, business meetings etc. This may, on occasion, require overnight visits.
Evidence of successfully meeting and exceeding challenging revenue targets. Evidence of developing new markets, evidence of financial acumen with experience of producing revenue management reports. A strong customer focus within the conference and events industry.
Person specification
Experience
- A background within the Events/Hospitality Industry, in a proactive sales role is essential together with a proven sales record.
- An understanding of the associations sector and experience of preparing bids and winning business within this sector.
- Experience of meeting and exceeding challenging sales targets.
- In depth knowledge of sales and negotiation techniques, IT/Telecommunication and Audio-Visual Services and equipment and the meetings industry – both nationally and internationally is required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and client liaison skills
- Resilience and tenacity
- Experience of researching international congresses and developing a pipeline of international leads.
- Experience of winning international and UK corporate business.
Technical
- Strong Ungerboeck skills – evidence of working with the system and producing reports.
