Job summary
Mechanical Transport Training and Licencing Officer (MT T&L) is required to liaise with driver training providers and where necessary deliver in house driver training to enable Licence Acquisition and driver continuation training for the Station, lodger and parented Units. The MT T&L is the Station lead for all MyDrive and licencing documentation to ensure compliance with all MOD Road Transport Policies.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
This role ideally suits an applicant with a strong background in transport management however suitable training will be given to the successful candidate.
The successful candidate will be responsible to OC MT for:
1. Providing driver training and familiarisation for White Fleet vehicles held at RAF St Mawgan for all Station, lodger and parented Unit personnel. This may include working occasional weekends to assist with driver training for the RAF Reservists and Cadet Forces across the South West.
2. As the Unit Licencing Officer (ULO), advise and maintain accurate MyDrive accounts to record and manage training qualifications and competencies.
3. Prepare and collate the required paperwork for all licence acquisition driver training completed through the local DeLTA .
4. Defence Road Safety Advisor (DRSA) be responsible for managing and implementing the Station’s Road Safety Campaigns, to improve Whole Force driver behaviour this will include: Media sourcing, training and running road safety campaigns for all Station, lodger and parented Unit personnel.
These tasks are not exhaustive, and you may be required to undertake other tasks within the remit of your grade and qualifications.
Person specification
As a customer facing role, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required to be able to interact professionally with a range of people from across the RAF St Mawgan Area of Responsibility (AOR). The successful applicant will be expected to be a team player who can build trust-based relationships and work within a close-knit team. A proactive and adaptable attitude is essential to ensure that all driving and administrative tasks required of them are completed to a high standard to ensure the smooth running of the Training and Licencing Section. The successful candidate must also demonstrate a self-motivated, flexible approach with an ability to prioritise work and manage resources effectively. You will be empowered to work autonomously within your designated area raising any issues to OC MT.
The successful applicant will hold or be prepared to acquire (within 6 months of appointment) the following:
- Defence Trainer Course (DTc)
- Defence Road Safety Advisor (DRSA)
- Defence Transport Manager (DTM)
It is desirable that the successful applicant has or is willing to gain:
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications including Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point
- Experience or familiarity with Power BI or other Power Apps (e.g. Power Automate, Flows)
Personal development is strongly encouraged with online training opportunities for the above.
Driving Licence Categories
All applicants are required to hold the licence category B with Cat D1, Cat D, Cat C being desirable qualifications. Those categories not held will be expected to be gained whilst in post and will require a Group 2 Driver Medical.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. The post does not offer relocation expenses.
External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
