Continuous At Sea Deterrence is one of the Royal Navy’s key outputs. 43 Cdo FPGRM delivers protection to this capability as well as providing support to Commando Force’s operations. Within 43 Cdo Logistics Department providing essential logistical support to all aspects of the unit, enabling operational commitments to endure.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

Provide support to enable 43 Cdo to meet their mission and tasks.

To provide catering support to 43Cdo FPGRM personnel operationally employed at HMNB CLYDE (Faslane and RNAD Coulport) in compliance with current health and safety and food safety legislation.

Secondary tasks

  1. To provide catering support to FPGRM in detached locations and exercise field galleys.
  2. Deputise for the Galley Manager in their absence.
  3. Correspond directly with other service and civilian catering members of staff in the course of his duties.
  4. Maintaining auditable catering records as detailed in current JSP 456 publications.Adhering to guidelines laid down in current Health and Safety and Food safety legislation.

Depending upon experience and qualifications, travel including overnight stays may be needed to complete training or to develop experience vital to fulfil the role.

Person specification

The Chef is a key role within the Log Dept, providing crucial support functions underpinning the outputs of 43 Cdo FPGRM. Your enthusiasm and professional standards are essential to ensuring catering is done correctly and to safe standard, you will be working with excellent equipment, giving you all the tools and access you need to work, combined with guidance and support from the team. Your contribution will directly affect the wider Unit, allowing us to continue to do essential work. You will require strong communication skills and a personable demeanour will be vital for liaising with colleagues both within and outside the department.

Qualifications

NVQ Level 2 in Catering & Hospitality/City & Guilds 706 1 & 2 or equivalent
Basic Food Hygiene

Professional qualifications can be achieved through an apprenticeship and range from Level 2 (equivalent to 5 GCSEs), Level 3 (equivalent to 2 A Levels), and Levels 4 -7, which can give you a foundation degree, a full Bachelor’s degree, or a Master’s degree.

Apprenticeships normally last between 12 months - 3 years, depending on the level of the apprenticeship.

Anyone can undertake an Apprenticeship and everyone, regardless of age, can benefit from developing their skills in an accredited way.

Successful candidates can discuss their development options with their manager when in post.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working.  This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance. External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.
