Job description

As our Data and Tools Lead you’ll help us develop a team, who can understand and influence the national productivity data, diagnosis and performance landscape.

We are looking for someone with specific expertise and experience. You will have an established track record in data management, data analysis, and creation of tools and approaches. You will also have up to date knowledge of the policing environment. The ability to build constructive and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders is going to be vital to your success. Joining us at this early stage means we need you to be skilled at creating and developing a high performing team, bringing your collaborative and flexible style to the role.  

You’ll lead by example, championing ethics, integrity, and diversity in the workplace and across the police service. Building and leading a dedicated team will be crucial to delivering strategic objectives, as well as fostering a culture of continuous improvement and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) across all activities. Excellent communication and people skills are a must.

Person specification

Training and qualifications:

  • A Level 7 qualification, or equivalent experience, in a relevant field, with extensive evidence of applying your knowledge.

Experience:

  • Experience of working in a relevant specialist field at senior leadership level.
  • Significant experience in data management, tools, analysis and approaches, working at a national level.
  • Evidence of building constructive and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders including senior managers and partner agencies.
  • Current policing knowledge and experience of policing/law enforcement environments. 

Skills and knowledge:

  • The ability to develop large scale Management Information systems and products.

Technical skills

We'll assess you against these technical skills during the selection process:

  • Set the direction of the analysis strategy for the programme of work.
  • Develop and implement data management policies and procedures and help drive the adoption of these data standards across the police service.
  • Work closely with national partners and forces to improve data quality, consistency and usage.
  • As a senior leader you will help teams to apply a range of techniques to analyse data and provide insight.

This role is available until 31 March 2025 as a fixed term appointment to all applicants, or as a secondment opportunity to:

  • colleagues employed directly by the College or the Civil Service. Please note you will be required to obtain the written support of your line manager prior to submitting your application.
  • serving police officers substantive in the rank of Superintendent, or those officers suitably qualified for temporary promotion in the rank of Chief Inspector. All applicants must have the support of their Chief Officer which must be of NPCC rank, i.e., CC, ACC or DCC and this must accompany an application.
  • serving police staff at the equivalent rank of Superintendent who have their chief officer's approval. Chief Officer’s approval must be of NPCC rank, i.e., CC, ACC or DCC. Approval for a secondment must accompany an application.
