Job description
This policy area presents opportunities to have a real, positive impact on young people through working with colleagues to drive existing initiatives forward, such as Cyber Explorers (an interactive online learning platform for 11-14 year olds), and helping inform the future strategic direction for youth cyber skills work.
This is a role with interesting and varied opportunities including working with other government departments such as the Department for Education, National Cyber Security Centre, Cabinet Office, Industry, and Academic partners.
Our wider Cyber Skills team looks to increase the number of people in the cyber workforce, alongside enhancing the quality and diversity of cyber professionals in the UK.
Our policy focuses look to (i) inspire young people and support them to enter a career in cyber and wider tech, (ii) design policy interventions that help upskill and reskill adults with an interest in a cyber career, and (iii) increase the professionalisation of the cyber workforce through the development of professional standards, both domestically and abroad.

Key responsibilities
• Supporting delivery of existing youth cyber programmes, such as Cyber Explorers (an interactive online learning platform for 11-14 year olds), setting future direction for youth initiatives and developing policy proposals.
• Being the key point of contact and subject expert for cyber youth skills by building your knowledge and networks to inform and shape the team’s strategic priorities and thinking.
• Establish and maintain key stakeholder relationships with partners across government and the wider cyber skills ecosystem.
• Drafting of briefings and policy advice to Ministers and Senior Civil Servants.

Essential Criteria:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to communicate complex issues with confidence and clarity.

Office attendance
The Department operates a discretionary hybrid working policy, which provides for a combination of working hours from your place of work and from your home in the UK. The current expectation for staff is to attend the office or non-home based location for 40-60% of the time over the accounting period.
