The role

Leading the Property Services team for the Non-Detained Asylum Accommodation team as you work on the critical infrastructure necessary to support exit from hotel accommodation, your focus in this vital role will be on delivering a core stock of housing and associated property services. Responsible for all aspects of acquisition and disposal activities, including property and financial due diligence as well as Health and Safety compliance, you’ll work with other teams in our organisation to ensure the successful delivery of outcomes on time, budget and to the highest standards.

Working closely with the Home Office Property Services group, the HO Minster’s private office, legal representatives and teams within our asylum function to deliver acquisitions and property related services​, you’ll work with finance colleagues to establish, review and deliver new budgets. Delivering estates, legal and planning solutions to reduce the government’s annual liability through the creation of a low cost, scalable and effective Non-Detained accommodation portfolio. We’ll also expect you to represent the Home Office’s interests in engagement with councils, landlords and other stakeholders.

About you

With considerable experience of leading public sector property, Health and Safety and facilities management teams across complex property types,, you’ll have a proven track record in acquisitions and disposals together with a good understanding of town planning and property legislation.​ Capable of managing a complex agenda and responding quickly to changing situations and challenges with flexibility and creativity, you’ll possess the skills to develop strong commercial partnerships and contracts.

When it comes to qualifications and memberships you should possess one or more of the following –  MRICS, Level 6 IWFM and NEBOSH. In addition, your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will allow you to work collegiately and maintain credibility with Ministers and senior colleagues while operating effectively under scrutiny by Parliament and the media.​

Selection process details

Essential Criteria 

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate their knowledge, experience, capability and behavioural approach to a high standard against the following key criteria:

  •  One or more of the following:

- MRICS

- Level 6 IWFM

- NEBOSH

  • Experience of working in property leading Health and safety and FM teams across complex property types. A subject matter expert with a proven track record in acquisitions and disposals with a good understanding of  town planning and property legislation.
  • Experience operating at a senior level with an ability to manage a complex agenda and respond quickly to changing situations and challenges with flexibility, pace, and creativity with experience of working with or developing strong commercial partnerships and contracts 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to maintain credibility with Ministers and senior colleagues, work collegiately, and operate effectively under scrutiny by Parliament, the media, and others.
  • Inclusive and visible leadership: The ability to encourage others in expressing their views and challenging the way things are done. Creating a culture of role modelling, transparency and supportive behaviour. This includes challenging unacceptable behaviours and putting into action the importance of a diverse workforce.
