Strategic Command is going through a significant transformation programme which aims to improve the way the Command conducts its business and delivers for Defence and the nation. As a consequence of this, all posts within Strategic Command Headquarters and in time the wider organisation, are/will be subject to review and potential changes as we continuously improve across the period of the transformation programme. These changes may be minor or could be more substantive and will generate new opportunities.  Throughout, the Command’s transformation programme is committed to following the MOD’s framework on managing and supporting people through the change process and places an emphasis on early and open consultation and engagement with the Command’s personnel and Trade Unions.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week terms and conditions dependent. 

Job description

DI is a world-class organisation that supports policy and decision-making at the heart of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the national security community. What you will be doing:

You will be part of a Data organisation delivering services across Defence and Government Departments. This post will be in the Data Office Technical Architecture team as Security architect with LM/CSO responsibilities for small team (C2, D,E1).

You will undertake complex work of a high risk level, often working on several projects.

At this role level, you will:

Create and design security for a system or service, maintain security documentation and develop architecture patterns and security approaches to new technologies. You will be a fundamental enabler by applying governance, assurance and consultancy surrounding the DI DevSecOPs environment.

The outputs provided by DI are of national importance, so you know the principles of user experience analysis, understanding the requirements of our end users is vital so you see the purpose of user stories and are able to focus on user needs.

Person specification

The main functions of the role will include, but are not limited to:

  1. Undertake structured analysis of technical issues, translating this analysis into technical designs that describe a solution.
  2. Be consulted about design and provide design patterns/ DART/SbD management.
  3. Identify security related issues and provide the necessary solutions in order to fix issues.
  4. Oversee system audits of security logs in order to identify evidence of potential security breaches or inappropriate user behaviours.
  5. Look for opportunities to collaborate and reuse components, communicating with both technical and non-technical partners 

Desirable Skills:

  • Project/ Programme/ management qualification – Practitioner Level
  • ITIL – Foundation Level
  • CEH – Practitioner Level

You will be based at Main Building, London, with frequent travel to other DI locations as required. This job role is suitable for hybrid working, which is an informal, non-contractual and voluntary arrangement, blending a balance of attendance in the workplace (the permanent duty station, at Main Building, London and working from home) as a personal choice. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working.  This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance.
