Job summary
I want our inspections to be of the system, by the system, for children and families. That means that inspections are something that is done with providers, not to them. That they are built around professional dialogue, and are conducted with professionalism, empathy, courtesy, and respect. - Sir Martyn Oliver, HMCI
We are seeking professionals with significant leadership and achievement in children’s social care who want to take their career to the next level. You will bring your talent, expertise, and recent practice to the inspection workforce, improving the lives of children and young people across the country. You will share our values of professionalism, empathy, courtesy, and respect.
As an HMI, you will broaden your knowledge through inspecting in a wide range of settings. You will be working with many other talented professionals from other key services, exercising your professional curiosity.
HMI, Social Care work primarily in local authority services but may also inspect services and settings that are registered with Ofsted, such as children’s homes and independent fostering agencies, the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass). HMI, Social Care also undertake joint targeted inspections with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS) and HMI Probation and Area SEND inspections with CQC. When not on inspection or meeting with colleagues, you will be able to work from home.
You will join an experienced team and engage in high-level professional discussion that can influence national policy. At Ofsted, there will be many opportunities to continue your professional development and enhance your career. Becoming an HMI could provide an excellent stepping stone to becoming an experienced and highly skilled social care inspector and/or a senior leader in Ofsted or back in the sector later in your career.
