Job description
The Analysis and Performance team supports the Insolvency Service with data, statistics and analysis. Our work provides senior leaders with evidence to support operational delivery, policy development and improving performance. As a Data Analyst in the Analysis and Performance team, you will work within a multi-disciplinary team alongside other data and analysis professionals.
You will collect, organise and study data to provide business insight. Working collaboratively with others in Analysis & Performance across a broad range of areas, you will understand, manipulate, and accurately analyse data, providing insight, briefing internal and external audiences in ways that make the complex easy to understand, particularly for non-specialist audiences.
This role provides exposure to strategic decision-making across all areas of the Agency’s operations and the corporate centre. You will work primarily with our Analysis Business Partners to develop and improve the team’s outputs to maximise the value we get from our data.
The team is on a journey to automate data flows and products, and build capability in analysis and data visualisation. You will play a key role in this and will have the opportunity to learn and apply skills in Power BI, R and Azure Data Platform.
Responsibilities
As a Data Analyst you will:
- Produce regular performance reports and dashboards by analysing data to create compelling evidence-based and actionable data stories to share with stakeholders to drive decisions.
- Help develop robust performance frameworks to support the understanding of performance and help drive performance improvement.
- Carry out thoughtful, challenging and constructive analysis of data, to support the understanding of performance and help drive performance improvement.
- Use a range of analytical techniques such as exploratory data analysis, descriptive statistics, time series analysis and correlation analysis to identify and predict trends in data.
- Work with a variety of qualitative and quantitative data, ensuring data and analysis is of high quality and accuracy.
- Provide challenge and collaborate with other digital and analytical professions, to provide collective insights.
- Continuously improve processes and systems referring to the Analysis Function Standards for example, the Aqua Book.

You are a skilled analyst with experience of delivering analysis and data visualisations to support decision making. You apply the analysis cycle in a proportionate way, with quality assurance at the heart of your work. You work collaboratively with other analysts and with colleagues from operations to develop and improve data and analysis products.
You will have experience in:
- Analysis – Able to conduct a range of qualitative and quantitative analysis. Able to identify and apply the most appropriate analytical techniques to inform decisions.
- Data Visualisation – Able to interpret requirements and present data in a clear and compelling way, using graphical representations and data visualisations.
- Communicating Insight – Strong verbal and written communication skills, sharing insights with stakeholders.
- Quality Assurance – The ability to conduct quality assurance and validation of data and analysis.
- Software programming, tools and techniques – The ability to use coding and programming skills for data analysis.

Selection process details
As part of the application process, you will be asked to complete a 750 words personal statement, technical skills and behaviours. Further details around what this will entail are listed on the application form.
Your personal statement should be no more than 750 words and should explain how you meet the requirements in the job description and person specification. Please tailor your statement to show how you have used your skills as an analyst to support decision making or generate new insights from data.
After submission of your application you will be invited to complete a Civil Service Numerical Test.
Please complete the online tests as soon as possible, the closing date for the tests is 23:55 on 19/11/24. If you fail to complete the online tests before the deadline your application will be withdrawn. Guidance for the tests will be available when you are invited to take the tests. The Insolvency Service is currently delivering an exciting five-year transformation project that started in April 2022 which will define our future direction supporting a gradual migration to a Regional Centre model combined with smarter ways of working. As part of this, transforming our estate will align us with the government modernisation programmes making The Insolvency Service a great place to work.
We are letting you know about our future plans because if you are joining the Insolvency Service and are recruited into an office over the next five years that is not one of the Regional Centres, you will be expected to move to one of the Regional Centres in the future. This move would not attract financial assistance.
The 11 Regional Centres are : Birmingham, Cardiff, Croydon, Edinburgh, Exeter, Ipswich, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham and Stratford.
Hybrid Working
