Job summary

The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 7,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army. 

The Defence School of Logistics and Administration (DSLA), one of three schools in the Defence College of Support (DCSp) delivers training to all Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force service personnel in Supply, Distribution, Catering, and Personnel Administration. We are predominantly based at Worthy Down - a newly built, modern campus in Winchester.

The college is made up of 3 schools; Defence School of Logistics and Administration (DSLA) predominantly based at Worthy Down; Defence School of Policing and Guarding (DSPG) in Southwick Park; and Defence School of Transport (DST) at Leconfield. The college headquarters is also based at Worthy Down – a newly built, modern campus in Hampshire. 

The Supply Training Wing (STW) has a vacancy for its Cargo Transport Unit (CTU) Supervisor Instructor post. This post works from the Worthy Down Site to oversee training delivery and drive continuous improvement across the CTU courses.
 
This is a full-time post of 37 hours per week. Attendance to the site will be required to suit the course schedules, but there may be an opportunity for hybrid working around this. 

Job description

The post is primarily responsible for the planning and delivery of the CTU Supervisor Course and allocation of resources to achieve the number of courses instances required for the training year. 

Main Key tasks include:

  • Lead for CTU Supervisor Courses and for planning and allocating resources
  • Provide liaison with various stakeholders, to ensure risk is identified and mitigated with any elements of CTU training delivery
  • Oversee training delivery by conducting both regular reviews of courses documents
  • Oversee lesson and trainer assessments for courses
  • Ensure Course remains compliant with OFSTED requirements
  • To attend appropriate meetings in support of the department
  • Assist with instruction on Dangerous Goods Courses (Surface and Air)

Person specification

This position will require candidates to be forward thinking and proactive, with a natural ability to form and motivate trainees to deliver qualified personnel. The candidate must be confident in providing the appropriate leadership and direction to trainees to maximise training optimisation and have a drive for continuous improvement and effective teamwork to support our business outputs.

The successful candidate will be able to:

  • The successful applicant will require previous experience in a training environment
  • A good level of IT skill will be required as they will be required to extensively use MS Office, in particular MS Excel and Word

Desirable

  • A reasonable knowledge of the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT)
  • An understanding of the delivery of Logistics and Movements within the Services

There may be circumstance where the successful candidates is required to work with under 18s, as such the successful candidates will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS (Disclosure Barring Services) Security clearance check.
