Job summary

A post is available within the Acoustics and Vibration Section in the Environmental Medicine and Science Division of the Institute of Naval Medicine. This Section offers advice on all aspects of noise and vibration to the Ministry of Defence (MOD) including conducting specialist surveys and delivering courses.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

As an Acoustics and Vibration Scientist, you will assist in designing, carrying out, analysing and reporting surveys of exposure to workplace noise and vibration; delivery of noise courses including the lecture and supervision of practical training; small applied research projects and presenting the results at conferences or in the scientific press. This list of duties is not exhaustive, and other tasks related to the work of the section will be necessary from time to time. Work will frequently involve travel and overnight stays within the UK, and sometimes overseas, at sites away from base. Surveys will involve working on ships and/or submarines.

Person specification

To perform within this role, you should have a good knowledge of the human aspects of exposure to noise and vibration, and the principles of noise and vibration measurement and exposure control. You will have a degree or equivalent in a science-based subject or hold the IOA (Institute of Acoustics) Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control.

Desirable: Membership of the IOA and a full UK Driving Licence.
