Job summary

The Ministry of Defence employs over 50,000 Civil Servants. Within that, the Army Top Level Budget (TLB) employs around 7,000 MOD Civil Servants located at over 300 locations. Ours is a diverse workforce, with roles ranging from trainers, human resources, teachers, and psychologists to storekeepers, financiers, project and programme managers, and policy secretariat staff. There are many different functions and professions delivering key outputs for the Army.

Working as part of our Content team, you will work closely with Army Photographers, our Campaigns team, as well as other creatives, to review, store and manage creative content to cater for all the Army’s communication needs.

This post is advertised for 37 hours per week, with the opportunity for some flexible working.

Job description

The Content Team are part of the Army Communications Branch of the British Army. Working alongside our colleagues in Andover and the wider Army and Ministry of Defence, we create and review products that help communicate key aspects of the Army through our Internal and External channels.

This role requires a keen eye for detail, and the ability to communicate feedback effectively, to a wide variety of stakeholders, building and maintaining relationships in order for the Army to produce the best quality content, whiles working within legal and policy compliance frameworks, and within the Army brand guidelines. You will be a key element of a large communications team and its many departments, where you will be expected to use analytics to understand the effectiveness of content, to inform others. You will be asked to seek resolutions and resolve issues as they arise and be a strong advocate for change and continuous improvement.

We often have to balance several campaigns and outputs at the same time, so good prioritisation skills are important in this role, as well as a dedication to ongoing professional development.

Main responsibilities will include - 

  • Review all content made in line with the International Communications and Engagement (IC&E) communications strategy, ensuring that it is on message and fit for purpose.
  • Distribute content to multiple platforms including social media, the British Army’s website, internal channels and for wider distribution.
  • Ensure that the British Army’s brand is implemented in all products.
  • Apply appropriate metadata to content produced, and upload/archive to the agreed storage facilities.
  • Feedback corrections and creative ideas to other Content Creators and Army Photographers, when required.
  • Adhere to Operational and Personal Security parameters and comply with MOD clearance procedures where required.
  • Adhere to General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Copyright and other laws pertinent to the distribution and archiving of content.
  • Working as part of the Army’s Content Desks to run and maintain the upkeep of the archive system, implementing high standards and best practice.

Person specification

We are looking for someone who will be able to help promote and tell the story of the British Army. This will have you casting a critical eye on content made by our versatile photographers and videographers, working closely with them to ensure that the highest quality imagery is created. The role will also see you leading on the archiving of all our products, ensuring all the necessary metadata, paperwork and forms are signed off ready for archiving, and that systems and workflows are maintained to ensure footage and imagery is easy to find and distribute if needed.
