Job summary
To provide civilian support to ensure the smooth running of issues and receipts within the Quartermaster (QM) department and to carry out all processing required to maintain accurate accounting records of all items held on account.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Strategic Command is going through a significant transformation programme which aims to improve the way the Command conducts its business and delivers for Defence and the nation. As a consequence of this, all posts within Strategic Command Headquarters and in time the wider organisation, are/will be subject to review and potential changes as we continuously improve across the period of the transformation programme. These changes may be minor or could be more substantive and will generate new opportunities. Throughout, the Command’s transformation programme is committed to following the MOD’s framework on managing and supporting people through the change process and places an emphasis on early and open consultation and engagement with the Command’s personnel and Trade Unions.

2. In addition, you will need to be familiar with the procedures for disposal and back loading of stores, running stock levels and stock rotation. Accommodating managerial stock checks will also be required. Maintaining documentation for stores accounting and auditing.
3. This post requires a degree of physical ability as you will be expected to lift and carry boxes of clothing and equipment around the store (also load/offload vehicles), and place/retrieve items and boxes from shelving that may be above head height. In accordance with HSE guidance, the recommended maximum manual handling weight that applicants can expect to lift is men (25kg) and women (16kg).
4. This post will involve on occasions working outside of the core hours, so a degree of flexibility is required. (This may require the need to work on evenings, weekends, Bank Holidays or outside Core hours (time off in lieu will be granted)).
5.Training will be provided in post on the use of the Army inventory management information system – Management of the Joint Deployed Inventory (MJDI).
6. Any other tasks commensurate of role as directed by line management.

In order to carry out the duties of this role, it is essential that the candidate has the following skills and abilities.
- Good communication skills
- Basic computer literacy/experience to undertake electronic accounting
- Literate and numerate to GCSE/equivalent level
- Capable of coping with heavy manual work in all weather conditions, within safe manual handling limits
- Hold a clean UK driving licence Cat B to assist collection, delivery and transportation needs of the task
- Ability to work on own initiative and with minimal supervision
- Ability to work in a team and enable others to give of their best
- Relevant experience and understanding of stores management and accounting procedures

The post does not offer relocation expenses.
