Job summary

The Commando Training Centre, also known as CTCRM, is the principal training centre for the Royal Marines.

Based at Lympstone in Devon, the Centre is structured and resourced to meet the specialist training requirements of the UK’s premier Very High Readiness intervention force. CTCRM selects and trains all Royal Marines Officers, recruits and reserves and is unique in that it also provides all Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) command training as well as training 70% of Royal Marines specialists.

On average, 1,300 recruits, 2,000 potential recruits and 400 potential officers attend training courses and acquaint courses at CTCRM every year. In addition, the Training Wings run upwards of 320 course starts a year for a further 2,000 students.

The role of Business Manager is fundamental to the operational delivery of Royal Marines Commando Training both in the UK and abroad, and this opportunity presents itself at the same time as the Royal Marines consolidates its position in its ambitious transformation programme. The Business Manager role therefore offers the successful candidate with the exciting opportunity to both ensure the support for today’s Commando training, as well as setting the conditions for reorientating Commando Force training for tomorrow.

We will support the successful candidate with career development; senior delivery skills, gain knowledge and expertise in a challenging yet encouraging environment in a tight-knit team of RM, RN, Army and Civil Service personnel.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

Business Manager, CTCRM is responsible for the oversight and financial management and planning of CTCRM's delegated operating, income and workforce budgets.

The BM also acts as the Civilian Workforce Advisor.  The role provides interface with Navy Command Human Resources Business Partner (BP), Financial BP and Commercial BP, providing subject matter expertise and advice to unit personnel across the functional areas.

This role requires experience in a busy office environment where decisions and tasks need to be handled at pace. An ability to network & gain a quick rapport with colleagues and building effective working relationships with a wide variety of partners is a must. Liaising closely with Command Headquarters, a natural passion and work towards continuous improvement is crucial in delivering positive outcomes in a sophisticated set of systems and processes.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working.  This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance.
