Job summary
The Planning Policy Team is responsible for the drafting and updating of national Planning Policy together with the preparation and implementation of Future Wales Our National Plan.
These documents evidence the principles of placemaking as a central tenet of the planning system in Wales and it is integral to the way in which we work.
The postholder would be a key member of the Policy Team and will develop expertise and drive policy across a range of topics. They would be expected to develop key specialisms related to planning policy and take the lead for developing new, and revising existing, policy.
They would manage a wide range of other initiatives across Government and be expected to support the other work of the Planning Directorate such as development plans, legislation, development management and case work.

Post holder would be expected to drive and deliver evidence-based policy across a range to specialist topics related to placemaking and some of the work of the team covers:
- Climate Change adaptation & mitigation including flooding
- Economic Development
- Energy
- Green Infrastructure & Biodiversity
- Historic Environment
- Housing
- Leisure & recreation
- Mineral & Waste
- Noise & Soundscape
- Retailing
- Transport
- Welsh Language
- Input into the scrutiny of Local Development Plans and Strategic Development Plans as they come forward in association with the Development Plans Team
- Provide accurate and timely technical briefing to Ministers and others in the Government
