Join the Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) as a Portfolio Management Office (PMO) Manager and play a pivotal role in driving excellence across MaPS’ Change Portfolio. With your expertise, you’ll support the transformation of their programme and project management practices, ensuring standardisation and best practices. Job description

The PMO Manager will report directly to Senior Programme Manager with a dotted line to the Director of Change. In this role you will be responsible for the following;

  • Support the delivery of business case benefits and outcomes, championing best practice project management standards and processes.
  • Ensure robust governance and assurance processes are in place, monitoring the effectiveness of controls and ensuring recommendations are implemented.
  • Assist in the development of business cases and provide a Change Portfolio view of project and programme budgets, forecasting costs in collaboration with Finance
  • Offer a portfolio perspective on resource allocation, aiding in the identification, recruitment, and development of project and programme resources.
  • Advise on stakeholder management tools and techniques, providing assurance on their effectiveness.
  • Work with the Risk Team to ensure effective management of risks, issues, and dependencies across the Change Portfolio.
  • Enforce change management protocols, updating project scope and documentation as required.
  • Continue to improve and operate project controls, reporting on progress and status, and disseminating lessons learned across the organisation.
  • Identify, develop, and share best practice project management processes, tools, and templates, benchmarking against industry standards.

Person specification

You will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience;

 

  • Demonstrable experience in playing a leadership role in cultural change and transformation with visible leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in planning and organising, with the ability to define and prioritise key components of the Change Portfolio.
  • Skilled in risk and issue management, with the capability to identify, monitor, and mitigate risks and issues.
  • Experience in dependency mapping and benefits management, with a focus on tracking and realising project benefits.
  • A critical thinker and problem-solver, adept at developing strategies to address challenges within the Change Portfolio.
  • Data-driven approach, with the ability to influence decision-making and instil confidence across the board.
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity, making decisions without a complete picture, and handling risk and uncertainty.

Selection process details

At MaPS, we take pride in our flexible approach to work.  As standard, we work on a hybrid basis with a minimum of 2 days in the office per week. Hybrid working is a voluntary, noncontractual arrangement and your office will be your contractual place of work. The number of days that anyone will be able to work at home will be determined primarily by business needs, but personal and other relevant circumstances will also be considered. If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working, including whether a hybrid working arrangement is suitable for you, will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.
