Job description

This role is to provide management information and financial analysis to enable evidenced based decision making in support of RoS business objectives and enable efficient and effective use of RoS resources through budgetary control.

Main duties

Your main duties will include: 

  • Produce monthly delegated budgeting reports ensuring quality and accuracy.
  • Analyse the data produced and liaise with relevant areas to explain resource usage and understand drivers behind cost and performance variances.
  • Facilitate monthly meetings with Budget Holders and support Directors to manage budgets, offering advice and challenging decisions when appropriate.
  • Ensure key messages from financial information are highlighted and clearly explained.
  • Provide assistance to business areas so that they understand the financial impact of their projects and follow cost control procedures.
  • Provide support in production of business cases, carrying out, analysis, appraisal and challenge to arrive at a robust end product.
  • Carry out financial analysis as required, identifying potential risks and benefits, evaluating options using quantitative and qualitative sources to achieve financial sustainability.
  • Assist with delivery of the budget forecasting cycle, providing guidance and support to the heads of services and EMT colleagues to ensure delivery aligns with the Corporate Plan.
  • Any other adhoc duties commensurate with the role.

Essential criteria - Your Skills and Attributes for Success

Technical

  • Part qualified / qualified CCAB (or CIMA) Accountant, AAT (or similar) qualified or qualified by experience.
  • Competent in the use of Windows based finance systems and Microsoft office applications, as a minimum, have intermediate excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, conditional functions etc.).

Deliver to deadlines and deliver high quality outputs under pressure, whilst demonstrating a commercial, financial, and sustainable mind set to ensure all activities and services deliver added value.

Selection process details

Assessment

Assessment

Candidates will be assessed against the essential criteria for the role competencies as stated above. We will invite suitable candidates to an interview which be held on Thursday 24th October and Friday 25th October, though this is subject to confirmation.

The assessment will be a behaviour-based interview based on the behaviours mentioned in the essential criteria.
We will be assessing candidates remotely via MS Teams, (though we may invite you attend assessment at one of our office locations with prior agreement). Assessments and appointments are made in line with the Civil Service Recruitment Principles, in strict merit order.
