Job summary

The Surface Flotilla (SURFLOT) is responsible for the operation, force generation and in-service capability management of all warships in the Royal Navy. It delivers available, capable, safe and environmentally compliant ships to meet Navy Command and Defence Plan directed outputs, supporting operations around the globe. The Defence Engineering and Support (DE&S) organisation provides Salvage and Marine Operations (SALMO) services to SURFLOT. The SURFLOT SALMO Client oversees the provision of these services and assures they meet the requirements of SURFLOT. SALMO includes the provision of ship salvage and recovery, towing, underwater engineering (diving) and the management of historic wrecks.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

The successful candidate will:

  • inform, support and advise SURFLOT on all aspects of the SALMO capabilities.
  • manage the funding of these capabilities.
  • assure that the capabilities are suitable and sufficient to meet the needs of SURFLOT.
  • liaise with operational planners with Navy Command to ensure the limitations of SALMO operations are understood.
  • Act as the requirements manager for the ship brokering and underwater engineering services provided to SURFLOT units worldwide.
  • Ensure that SURFLOT has the correct advice in commercial diving, towing and salvage.

Person specification

You should:

  • have an understanding of or interest in the Royal Navy.
  • have a background of working in the maritime domain.
  • be qualified in a relevant technical or engineering discipline, ideally at degree level.
  • have project management skills, including experience in financial management.
  • have the ability to work in a diverse organisation including military and civil service personnel.
