Job summary

  • This role is an exciting opportunity to support the parliamentary engagement team with cross cutting work while also having a small defined portfolio you are responsible for managing.
  • You will be responsible for Parliamentary monitoring resources that are shared with the wider Parliamentary Policy and Strategy team as well as senior stakeholders across the Department.
  • You will lead on delivering parliamentary communications products such as the MP newsletter and bespoke toolkits for MPs to promote the work of the Department.
  • You will support the team’s parliamentary intelligence gathering work and make sure biographies for key parliamentarians remain up to date.
  • You will develop relationships with key teams that will help you produce the weekly parliamentary grid and other comms products for parliamentarians.
  • You will be responsible for making sure teams understand why we engage with Parliament, and you will ensure any communications/engagement plans have an appropriate parliamentary engagement plan in them.
  • You will need to monitor the news/stakeholder sentiment and look out for issues related to business/trade and highlight to relevant teams anything that might become of interest in Parliament.
  • You will work closely with colleagues across the Parliamentary Policy and Strategy team to make sure the right teams are aware of our engagement plans and make sure they feed into parliamentary monitoring resources.
  • You will also provide light-touch (1-2 hours per week) diary support to the team’s Deputy Director. This will involve supporting the Deputy Director to organise their diary and arranging some meetings as needed.

Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to work in the Parliamentary Policy and Strategy team focusing on horizon scanning, communications and intelligence gathering work.

  • You will work with teams across DBT to ensure the engagement team is able to develop appropriate parliamentary handling plans for key DBT announcements and communications moments.
  • You will manage the parliamentary activity grid and work closely with strategic communications and press colleagues to make sure there is a frequent exchange of information about comms moments and sharing relevant information with colleagues across the Parliamentary Policy and Strategy team.
  • You will work on developing and designing products for parliamentarians that will be used to promote the business support DBT offers to ensure MPs and Peers understand how the department is helping businesses and driving economic growth.
  • You will support the delivery of any parliamentary events or meetings with parliamentarians.
  • You will play a key role in developing parliamentary intel and regularly updating biographies for key parliamentary stakeholders.

To start an apprenticeship, you’ll need to be:

  • 16 or over
  • living in England
  • not in full-time education
