Defence Primary Health Care (DPHC) are looking for a dynamic, organised, and efficient Band 3 Healthcare Assistant who will be working within our team at Medical Centre, Leuchars Station, Leuchars, St Andrews.
This position offers 37.5 hours per week.

Job description
The successful candidate will provide an important service for patients (personnel and their dependants), carrying out procedures and supporting patients to live healthier lives. This role supports the strategy and mission statement for Defence Primary Health Care (DPHC) to ensure optimum health and well-being for patients and maximum deployability.
An important part of the service is clinical care including taking blood samples to be sent laboratory for testing, wound care, and health promotion. The Healthcare Assistant also supports the delivery of the service by providing some administrative support, such as ordering clinical supplies.
They will demonstrate safe care for patients within the medical facility (MF). They will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures.
Person specification
Duties and responsibilities for the role include but are not limited to:
- Delivering a high standard of patient care as delegated by a registered practitioner, working within own competence and keeping up to date with relevant training highlighting any training needs or competency requirements to maintain role.
- Supporting resupply administration functions within practice, maintaining medical stores, ordering stock and resupplying clinical areas. Ensuring practice equipment competency’s and raise issues to the Practice Manager.
- Providing safe, evidence-based, cost-effective, and individualised patient care as delegated prioritising own workload and ensuring effective time management strategies are embedded in own practice.
- Provision of a phlebotomy (blood-taking) service as requested by a registered practitioner.
- Carrying out patient health checks, including health screening and measurements, and recording previous medical history, family history and current medications.
- Maintaining accurate and contemporaneous records to relevant professional standards/guidelines.
